Did you mean a pinging noise? White smoke and pinging are indications of Anti-freeze getting into the combustion chamber.Most likely causes are blown head gasket or cracked cylinderhead. It would help to know what type of car it is.

check under your steering column brake switch has to be loose and when you push the gas pedal something in that area is touching the brake switch causing lights to come on.

Hello Mate my Grand Vitara had that same problem it took it back to suzuki they did not have a clue, so i investigated the problem myself. There are two hoses connected to the catalist converter tricky to get to, one of mine was bunt off i have ordred a new hose and the light has gone off. i think the hose is call DPF hose.
