Ford focus tdci white smoke problems

What happening is you have a bad head gasket or its starting to go bad. As long a little oil is getting in to cylinders causing that smoke once it warms up that gasket is expanding thus the smoke stops. I would keep an eye on oil levels if it gets milky replace gasket asap. Could also be intake gasket but highly doubt it this sounds like a worn head gasket.

Rev problem

There can be several reasons for this. A stuck throttle flap in the intake manifold, or an opening in a gasket. Some of the engines have a part called a manifold runner. This part is like a 2 position shutter. When it sticks, the high speed chamber can be open at low speeds in error. This causes the engine to run faster. The part may need to be removed to clean or an attaching/operating assembly may be stuck.

my knob broke from turning it because it became hard to turn--- i think the actuator is jammed or broke because even with a new knob, it turns freely and does not change selections.

Unable to open bonnet

Pull the hood release handle in the drivers' area. While you have it pulled, reach outside and slap the hood with an open palm. The shock should allow your hood to pop open to the safety catch position. Then open normally.
Hope this gets you "in".
