could be a failing cat converter and the code would be refering to a roblem heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) in an exhaust manifold before the cat converter have an exhaust shop check the cat converter as they do break up internally , rattlr around and in some instances can block the exhaust system

could all be from the fact that the battery is dead

The power connection to the fan motor on these is known to overheat and cause a bad connection.The fan motor is above the passengers feet.Next time the fan motor will not come on, switch the selector to high and wack the bottom of the dash above the passengers feet.If the motor does come on at that time,you may need a replacement fan motor and connector.REPLACE the fan speed resistor board when replacing the fan motor,which is right behind the fan motor.

Inside the center of the valve cover . Spark plugs install in the center of the head .

WAs the oil cap installed securely?

Could be the ecm which controls the relay for the fuel pump and the firing of the spark plugs.

change the distributor cap

Disconnect the fuel line off the carb then turn the starter over. There should be gas shoot out. If not your fuel pump may be shot. have you ever changed the fuel filter? If its plugged it will not work.

remove the steering wheel and then remove the indicator switch assembly

sounds like a wire broke to kill the motor

Best plan is to buy a cheap shop manual. It will give you step-by-step instructions plus torque values.

Engine misfire. check engine light on ? Have you ever replace spark plugs ?
