My car is a 2005 Dodge Stratus Sedan with the 4 cyl DOHC engine. The first symptom was an engine light and a loose vacuum tube. When I checked out the PCV valve the tube goes to (removed it, cleaned it, and replaced it) the engine light went away for a few days. Then it came back so I replaced the PCV valve. Engine light went away for a few days then returned. I went and got the engine light read and it was a P0340 (Cam Shaft Position Sensor). At this point the problem gets worse – sometimes when driving the engine will “chug” when accelerating at a moderate rate and when I am going over 60mph and give it gas. I have to “baby” it to get it home a couple times. The strange thing is that if the engine light comes on when I start the car it will usually drive fine – it’s when it doesn’t come on upon starting but instead comes on while driving that I start to get the “chugging” problem. So, at the point I replace the Cam Shaft Position Sensor. The engine light doesn’t go away immediately but after a couple starts it is gone. The car drives perfectly fine for 4 weeks with no light and no “chugging”. Then 2 days ago the car won’t start. The starter is cranking the engine but it just won’t start. It won’t start with a jump-start or with a new battery. I then thought about the Cam Shaft Position Sensor replacement and wonder if that has anything to do with it? I just happened to still have the old one so I take off the new one and slap the old one back on. The car starts up on the first try, however, my old friend the engine light is back on. Does anybody have any idea what these symptoms might be telling me? My thoughts:
-Maybe I just happened to get a bad Cam Shaft Position Sensor to replace the old one?
-Some other issue is disabling or otherwise burning through Cam Shaft Position Sensors?
-Some other issue that replacing PCV valves and Cam Shaft Position Sensors only masks for a limited time?
Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!
I had the same problem with my '05 Stratus SXT 2.4 DOHC. I've replaced the cam pos sensor and it seems to be running fine right now. On the Dodge forums a lot of the guys say that you need to replace the crank pos sensor too. I've bought one of those just in case it comes back again. Hope this helps.

i need to know where it is located and how to fix it. thank you
THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS LOCATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HEAD. 2 BOLTS AND AN OVAL FLANGE. IT HAS A RED LOCK ON THE PLUG WHICH YOU JUST MOVE TO THE RIGHT TO RELEASE THE MAIN PLUG. BUT I dont know if thats your problem. the timing belt seems to fail on these cars prematurely. Dodge recomends 90,000 miles but many cars bend engine valves before this due to the timing belt. (around 83000-88000) miles. I would reccomend having someone look into this problem first. Also trying this yourself can be costly, simply because the timing belt MUST be installed properly and exactly. If this is not done the engine could be at risk causing expensive repairs. Ihave a friend who had the timing belt replaced by an individual and the i recieved it on a tow truck. Which it now cost them 1600.00 to repair. I have been a mechanic for 15 years. But i got smart and went back to college and npw i am a refrigeration technition. Just trying to help you out. any ? [email protected] i would be glad to help.

My 2005 Dodge Stratus is having air conditioner problems. I just replaced the alternator. The next day, it was hot enough outside to run the air conditioner. When I turned it on, I only received hot air. I then thought that I missed something I needed to do when I hooked everything back up. I checked and all the belts and connections were correctly in place or connected. I then added more coolant. The compressor did not come on. I checked the wiring voltage and the connections, they were receiving the proper voltage. I checked the fuses, they are good. I then manually tripped the compressor to come on and this worked. I then let it run for a couple minutes, but then the compressor started leaking the coolant as a release valve and the compressor automatically shut down. Then it would not turn back on automatically. I am not sure if there is something else I could do to see why it will not turn on automatically. It seems that the compressor is working but for some reason will only work if I trip it manually. I do not believe that the coolant is overloaded. The seals and hoses are good with no leaks.
The pressure switch on the accumilator is at fault if you bypassed it and the compressor worked. Remove the plug-in on switch and move plug away from the accumilator. Then with a small wrench or small pliers remove pressure switch. (be sure to grab it at the base as close as possible). The freon will stay in the system after removal of switch ( there is a valve core inside the accumilator DO NOT REMOVE IT) Replace the switch and check to see that a new o-ring is on switch. Use a little refrigerent oil to lubericate the o-ring before installing. Hope this will help you.

How to change heater core on 2005 dodge stratus?
The vehicles covered by this manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses air bags. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, air bag modules, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described earlier in this section.

diagram fuse panel dodge stratus 2005
location of 2.4l 2005 dodge stratus crankshaft sensor
On the Internet there are a lot of different descriptions of where the CRANKSHAFT position sensor is on the 2005 Dodge Stratus sedan 2.4L engine.
HERE IS WHERE I FOUND IT ON MY CAR:
it was on the front of the engine, behind/under the starter motor.
HOW CAN YOU TELL IF IT IS AT THIS LOCATION ON YOUR CAR:
- One website said that if the 8th number/letter in your car's VIN number is an X then it is located here (this was true for my car).
- To confirm: See if there is a wire (3 wires together actually) leading under the starter motor (see #2 below for a description of the starter motor's location).
THESE ARE THE STEPS I TOOK TO REPLACE IT:
1. Disconnect the positive terminal of the battery. (Turn the wheels all the way to the right, remove/pull back the black plastic cover of the front of the left wheel well, thus exposing the battery, and then unbolt the red positive terminal). You NEED to do this because you'll be working with the starter motor and you don't want to get shocked.
2. Unbolt the starter motor. You can see and access the starter motor from the top. It is situated on the front of the engine block, below the air intake (see the picture). It just has two 15mm bolts on the right side holding it on. You should be able to get a ratchet or wrench to them from the top, or you may even be able to get at them better from below.
3. Lift the starter motor up out of the way. I left all of the wires connected to it, and simply tied it with twine to the plastic air intake above to keep it out of the way.
4. You should be able to clearly see and access the sensor now (see the second picture). It has one bolt, and the plug. *Make sure to put a little oil on the rubber seal of the new sensor before inserting it.
5. Put everything back, in reverse order.
A COUPLE OF THINGS TO NOTE:
- I believe this applies to model years 2003-2006, and to the 2.4L Chrysler Sebring sedan of the same years.
- You probably don't need to jack your car up for this repair. I had my car up on ramps, but in the end I did everything from the top.

I was driving through town and my battery light came on so i drove about 5 miles to the advanced auto in town. when i got there they checked the battery it was low and when they tried to check the alternator it was low enough to not turn over. they charged the battery and then checked everything again. results were the battery was good, charging system showed no problems and the alternator was ok. he told me the alternator may have a diode going bad but it wasnt a problem for now just something i wanted to get work on replacing soon. but by the time we got to our next destination the battery light was on again. belts are fine and when it idles or when i accelerate it whines like something is rubbing. also when i have it in park and press the gas my speedometer goes up equal to the rpms.
it still could be either your battery or your alternator you'll need a volt ohm meter to check the output of your alternator you should be putting out around 14.5 volts at 1200 rpm. if it dosen't replace it if it dose charge up your battery and see if it holds a charge overnite. it sounds like an alternator issue
