1991 Ford Ranger Supercab - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Step by step on a 1991 ford ranger v6 setting a new distributor timing
You shouldn't necessarily have to change the timing with a new distributor -- just note where the rotor is pointing on the old one before taking it out, and make sure the new one is pointed the same way when you install it.
Regarding the procedure for checking the timing: you do have a repair manual, right? If not, you can probably find a used one for less than $10, which I guarantee can prevent at least $10 worth of mistakes. I like Haynes manuals better than Chilton's.
Headlights
The only thing that all of your problems have in common is the light switch and the dash wiring harness. The stereo is linked to the light switch because of it's illumination feature' You need to test the light switch with a test light by probing the wires at it's plug.
How does actuator for 4 x 4 work?
Since no one has answered yet, I will give general info. There are vacuum styles and electric styles. The idea is to vary the length of the plunder on the actuator to give different functions.
There can be similar problems on both systems when the plunger does not change length according to your dash controls. Sometimes a bad knob in the dash can turn but not move the shaft that the knob is connected on. Basically spinning around the shaft and not really moving the shaft. A new knob would repair it.
Then with the electrical type, each selection has a different electric value but a burnt out light bulb can change the electronic values and give you different functions for where the knob is turned. Also corrosion on the connectors can change the voltage that you need.
The vacuum type can be affected by any vacuum leak from any vacuum line on your vehicle. You can use a handheld vacuum pump to measure a sealed system or an open leak.
Hope this helps.
91 ford ranger hydraulic clutch not working
Most likely your slave cylinder has gone out on you, it is a common problem with Fords, it is located down under by the clutch some are inside the Bell house around the clutch, they can be a headach to bleed out after replacing them, your doing this to get all the air out of the lines, i would recomend having a shop take care of it for you ?
91 ford ranger 3.0 has fuel and fire wont start
Hopefully, it is just the battery. Try and jump start it to see if that works. If you do jump it successfully, drive it immediately to your preferred auto parts store and have them install a new battery. If that doesn't work, there could be an issue with one of the components of the ignition system (ignition coil, distributor, etc). A problem here could prevent enough energy being transferred to the spark plug to ignite the engine. If it isn't the battery, then you should have it towed in to a mechanic.

Mine is a 1991 ranger
Hi there.
From the info you sent was all the same problem and that is the wire harness between engine bay and rear lights has a brake in it which sounds like burnt out on the exhaust or rubbed on a U bolt in the chassis find it and you have found your problem ,except the heater that could either be a fuse / heater tap witch is in the heater pipe from engine to heater going through the firewall and is either operated by either air pipe or a cable in dash.
Start engine run to warm and check the small heater hose and it should be warm one side of tap and cold other side ... answer get new tap.
Why does my 91 ranger dies when put into reverse?
bypass where the automatic transmission lines go into the radiator, many fords will have a plugged up trans cooler that will restrict flow and stall the motor when shifting into reverse. if you find the bypass fixes the problem then install an external trans cooler.
