2005 Ford Freestyle(80000kms) has stiff steering.Power steering fluid has changed color. What could cause this?
do you live in high salted areas? If so, My freestyle had the same problem. It's the joint in the steering column (you can see it from underneath the vehicle) Just keep it lubed. I had to replace mine because it had worn out. Expensive. Also, it could be the bearings on top of your front struts. Dirt gets into it and binds it up. Poor engineering designs.

I also have been having this message displayed. I would like some clarification for solution 2.
(there is a solenoid that activates the all wheel drive it's located on
the front of the axle housing on the drivers side of transmission
chances are that it needs replacing.)
I looked at my connections yesterday and noticed a solenoid on the rear axle that is on the front of the differential. You would have to remove the input shaft yoke to replace. Is this what you are talking about or is there one on the transmission.
I have the same problem on my 2005 Freestyle and it was just diagnosed today as a problem with the AWD oil pump.

I have 120,000 miles on my 2005 Ford Freestyle with a CVT Transmission, do I need to change the fluid in it. thanks
The high pressure filter and fluid are supposed to be changed at 60k intervals. Ford has a very specific oil for this transmission and the service fee will be $300 to $450 - mine was around $420.
No other car place will touch the CVS transmission in a Ford Freestyle and most Ford dealerships are clueless on thier maintenance and repairs. On most issues that crop up the first thing they want to do is swap it out - for $4000+.

Driving my 2005 ford freestyle and all of a sudden, the vehicle starts to slow down. I see the "engine fail safe mode appear and a lit up wrench also appear. I pull over, shut the car off and restart it and it's ok for a period of time. Its starting to happen more frequently now
go to a parts store and have the codes read(most of them will do it for next to nothing. There is also more than likely some maintenance needed. get back to me when you have the codes and we can diagnose this together.Just because there is a code does not necessarily mean that part is bad, but an area to test to find the actual problem.
