I have the exact, word for word problem that the last guy posted.
The battery ran out over the night, we too had a door that was not closed all the way. We charged the battery, it is fine and holds a very good charge. The lights work, radio, the door dinger, windows, everything else works, but the car won't start. No noise, no clicking, no sign at all that the ignition or starter is even trying to start the vehicle. Checked EVERY fuse, battery cable, the starter, power to the starter, and so on.
HELP???
A FORD MACHANIC HAS TOLD ME THAT IN FACT THE KEY HAS TO BE RECODED. MY SITUATION IS EXACTLY THE SAME. HE SAID TO RECODE THE KEY I HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION TO THE RUN POSITION, THE SECURITY LIGHT ON THE DASH WILL FLASH RAPIDLY AND CONTINUE TO FLASH FOR 15 MINUTES . WITHIN FIVE MINUTES AFTER THE LIGHT STOPS FLASHING I MUST TURN OFF THE IGNITION FOR ONE SECOND AND TURN IMMEDIATLY BACK TO THE RUN POSITION FOR 15 MORE MINUTES. THE LIGHT WILL GO OFF AGAIN . WITHIN 5 MIN. I MUST TURN OFF THE IGNITION FOR ONE SECOND AND TURN BACK TU RUNNING POSITION. 15 MINUTES LATER REPEAT STEPS AGAIN AND THE KEY WILL BE REPROGRAMMED, AND STSRT THE CAR. GOOD LUCK MY CONTACT IS A FORD MASTER MECHANIC.

reset my anti theft system so my truck will start
If the theft light is flashing with the proper key in the ignition then either the chip in the key is bad or the transceiver on the ignition cylinder is faulty. The PATS system is built into the PCM.

I recently changed my rear brakes on my 2004 Ford Explorer. About 2 weeks later, the ABS light came on (stayed on) and the 4X4 HIGH light flashes. There is also a noticable grinding/rubbing noise coming from the front wheel-well when I'm making a sharp turn, mostly in reverse going out of a tight space. A local mechanic checked the codes which told him that the front right sensor was out. Is this something that I can change myself? And is this the actual problem? Why would there be a rubbing/grinding noise if it's just a sensor?
The abs and the 4x4 should not be related. The grinding rubbing noise that you describe when you turn is consistant with the way your car would behave turning on dry pavement when the 4x4 is engaged. You very well could have a sensor problem, but it sounds like (from your description of the problem), that there is more than 1 issue. And yes, often a sensor replacement simply requires unplugging and unmounting then reversing the process. Auto Zone or Advance can sell you the part, but have them check the codes to confirm that diagnosis...(They will do that for free), they can show you how the sensor attaches and the location of the part. The 4x4 could be a selenoid or sensor related issue as well. When you go in, tell them about the 4x4 and be on the lookout for related code faults for that problem. Explorers and Sport Trac models with the push button 4x4 have a history of issues with the unit that mounts on the transfer case. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!

AAA changed my battery on my 2004 Ford Explorer xls and now the truck won't start. This is a base model... so there are no remotes or key less entry and I do not see a chip on the metal part of the key. It does not crank or make an noise as if it is trying to turn over when I turn the key. The anti theft light flashes fast when I turn the key.The car was cranking before the battery went completely out, so I believe that the solenoid and the starter are fine. I believe it needs to have the anti theft reset. I do not have a second key so please do not suggest grabbing a second key.The truck is kept in a heated garage. Hardly driven and has only 40,000 miles on it.Can someone please tell me what the process is to reset the anti theft system? Times are rough and I would really like to avoid paying the dealership to do something that I can do myself.
sounds like aaa might have popped your main fuse. i would call aaa back and tell them your problem. they are responsible.

trouble code P0320 ignition/dist. engine speed input circuit
P0320 - Ignition / distributor engine speed circuit malfunction
The ignition engine speed sensor input signal to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM) is continuously monitored. The test fails when the signal indicates that 2 successive erratic profile ignition pickup (PIP) pulses occurred.
Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of Power
- The engine may be harder to start
- The engine may stumble or stall
When is the code detected?
The P0320 code is triggered when 2 successive erratic PIP pulses are detected.
Possible Causes:
- Loose wires/connectors
- Faulty Crank Position Sensors
- Arcing secondary ignition components (coil, wires and plugs)
- Low battery charge
- Powertrain Control Module
Possible Solutions:
- Resecure loose wire or connectors
- If battery charge is low, recharge or replaced battery
- Replaced crank position sensor
- Replaced starter motor
Test it and tell us news.
