how can I get the code to know whats wrong without a code reader
On a Ford system you need a code reader, no other way. The plug is under the steering column.

I have a 1992 f150 with 302 auto/overdrive. Its transmission was rebuilt 5 months ago and switched fine. It has sat for 6 weeks or so (due to my health) and when I went to drive it today, I got it started (the battery was low and I had it recharged at O'Reilly's) and let it warm up before driving it. When I drove off I put it in OD and it never would shift out of first. If I put it in 2nd, then it would drive and stay in 2nd. If I put it back in OD, it would shift back to first and stay in first. What could be wrong, it drove fine last time I drove it and then today, this???
If the shift lever is floppy and not shifting, drop the steering column so the steering wheel is resting
on the seat. you will see on the shift linkage, a pot metal casting....kind of tube shaped, about
a foot long. It is mounted to the top of the steering column. check for a fatigue fracture on that tube.
if you find that it is broken, it's not too bad a job to remove it. will need a screwdriver with
torx head bits, and a 1x4 inch socket.

I have a 1992 ford f-150 with a 5.0 auto. My truck when sitting at a stop light idles rough. Also at night the battery power drops way down with the lights and heater on. Not sure if its a bad alternator. Its fine when driving but sitting at a stop light the power drobs. Thank You,
This whole problem is most likey due to a sludged up intake and idle speed control valve, do the following procedure and it should take care of the problems, also run a couple of cans of LUCUS brand fuel injector cleaner through, I know u will see it is more expensive than other brands, but the thing is it works!
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls at stops and low erratic idle speed and rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

1992 f150 dual gas tanks. #1 tank(first tank closest to cab) pumps gas out of fuel cap.
A FORD EQUIPED WITH DUAL TANKS THIS YEAR MODEL HAS CHECK VALVES IN THE FUEL PUMPS .THE FUEL RUNS FROM THE REAR TANK WHEN IT IS POWERED ON TO A TEE AND INTO THE SAME LINE AS THE FRONT PUMP . THE PROBLEM IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT FUEL PUMP THERE IS A CHECK VALVE ON THE FOOT AND IT IS NOT WORKING.WHILE THE TRUCK IS RUNNING WITH THE REAR FUEL PUMP ON IT IS PUMPING FUEL INTO THE FRONT TANK . IT WILL RUN OUT OF THE NECK WHEN IT IS FULL.THE FIX IS SIMPLE REPLACE THE FRONT FUEL PUMP. THEY DONT MAKE A CHECK VALVE REPLACEMENT I CHECKED I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.

My 1992 Ford F150 Flareside has a 5.0L 302 engine. It dies in reverse, won't idle high long enough to actually warm up the engine and seems to hesitate or cut out around 35 MPH. I need to know if this is the throttle Position Sensor or if there's an idle air control or what. I just had these same issues repaired less than a year ago. Thank you
I have a 1992 ford f-150 flair side.when you start it for the first time it starts and runs great but after running for a few minutes and cut it off it want start back unless you hold the throddle to the floor. Then it smokes and runs rough for a while befor clearing up.I've replaced the air filter and checked the firing.Could this be a sencer problem or what? Please help!! Thanks Daniel

1992 ford f150 speedometer quit working and ABS light is on, also odometer is not working
where the speedometer cable goes into the transmission under the car, when removed from the trans there is a small gear that gets worn out over time.. that little gear or the entire speedometer cable needs to be replaced. An easy and inexpensive fix. I believe the ABS light is on because the computer needs the speed of the car to make its calculations for braking. As long as the speedometer is not working, it cannot do that. So after the speedometer cable issue is fixed, that issue should be fixed as well.

changed fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel relay engine cranks but will not start
I believe that motor still uses a distributor cap, rotor, and seperate coil...it has to be no spark...inspect the cap and rotor for hairline cracks...remove the coil, (Connected to center wire on distributor cap) and have tested...Hope this helps.
