well makes no sense turnsignals are on ignition switch fed fuse and brake lights are on 24 hour fuse.. to me sounds like bad turn switch... it handles turn signals also hazzards. and brake lights have to go through the turn switch also... it is common problem.. combination switch is what they call it.. not hard to replace either....let me know
I went to go and have emissions done on my 99 ford
It will be visible by looking at the front of the cluster. use a flashlight, and you should be able to see a "shadow affect" , or the outline of the "Check Engine Light" "Oil" "Low Fuel" etc. for all of the dash lights.
Ignition switch or linkage problems?
Probably bad switch down on the column shaft.OR the link rod that leads to it. The switch is spring loaded and is probably bad.
Not talking about the key tumbler here. don-ohio
Rebuilding motor 96 crown Vic
Buy a used factory repair manual so you know the info is accurate. You can find used factory manuals on eBay motors.
How to remove drivers door panel
Ok, here goes from memory:
pry up the master switch panel on the door handle. When you have that up, disconnect the wiring and set the unit aside and let the connectors hang down. There should be 5 screws: 1 behind the part you just removed, one behind the door handle, one on the rear side of the door (near the lock mechanism), one on the bottom below the courtesy light, and one down on the bottom near the front corner. Remove those, lift the panel straight up, and then out. Be careful to not rip the power window connector off!
Replacing bulbs in instrument cluster
it's not really a first timers job . there are a lot of trim covers that are held on my clips and some screws . it's really all about trial and error . people like me who have been doing them for years and have broken more than a few trim parts and still brake a few here and there, have no choice but to carry on and do them because that's what i am paid for.
but a first timer could end up with a dashboard that will no longer fit back together and is now ruined.
there are no manuals for such repairs because to write all the steps down you would end up with a novel 300 pages long.
if you take it on try to find a neighbor or a friend who has done one or two before to help you with it , look on you tube for people taking apart dashboards in ford cars to get an idea how ford thinks.
good luck
How do you remove the cluster on a 1996 Crown Victoria to replace the bulbs
Never done a crown vic but it is all the same. You will have to search out the screws holding on the individual dash panels. Some are underneath, some are in the ash tray and there are usually concealment tabs that cover up the screws that hold the top on. It is a matter of experimenting the first time unless you can get a diagram from somewhere.
How can I tell if my crown victoria motor mounts are broken
You need to open the hood. You can have someone stand by the fender and look at the engine while you do this test. Now start the engine and put it into drive gear, apply the brake and step on the accelerator pedal to bring the RPM up a little. The helper must watch how much the engine as it lifts or twists. More than an inch or two you have a broken mount. Now do the same thing in reverse gear to check the other side. This vehicle is a rear wheel drive and will have 3 motor mounts. Left , right (both under the exhaust manifolds) and a rear mount at the rear of the transmission. This mount should be visually checked as well. I hope this helps.
