Which way do you turn the piston clockwise or
Clockwise-on the rear
I would open the bleeder valve first, push piston in,then screw parking brake in.
You need to flush your brakes every couple years, anyway.
After you install new pads, ratchet brake up by hand.

Where is locations the speed sensor
The Ford Freestyle transmission speed sensor location is
driver side of the transmission, near the rear of the unit. The transmission is one of the most important parts of the vehicle. You will come into problems at some point. You may experience shudders.

I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle & the driver side
these cars are notorious for the ac compressor control valve going bad causing these same symptoms, mainly warm air while idling. It's a cheap part in the neighborhood of $20 and can be easily replaced by you. The only thing you must do first, however, is to have your ac system refrigerant evacuated due to the pressure at the valve. Some places will evac for free, others charge but it's still way cheaper than replacing your compressor!

How to open rear hatch on 2006 Ford Freestyle without handle
If it has an electric release or a cable release you will need to open it from the inside by use of the lever (cable) or button (electric) and the vehicle handbook will provide location details. If the releases do not work the fuse(s) might be blown or the cable broken near the handle.
If all has been tried in the car to no avail it will be necessary to open the tailgate by diverse means - in the case of an electric release it is common for the wiring to break where it passes from the vehicle roof into the tailgate and in the hope that is the fault it will be necessary to remove whatever trim is going to give access to either the electric release or the wires nearby and then provide it with a 12 volt supply and hope that opens the tailgate because if it doesn't it will mean manually manipulating the lock - not often easy for the inexperienced.
The cable of the cable release and the release itself is fortunately much more accessible as they are body equipment and not tailgate equipment.

Front end has a noise like brake shoe rubbing the rotor
A few things could be the problem. Are you certain that you don't have a small rock jammed somewhere and that's what's rubbing? If the pads are down to the sensors, that would start making a squealing noise. The pads will still show lining on them when the sensors are starting to touch the rotors.

Band tightening on transmission
changing the transmission oil fixes a lot of this related problem
a clutch pack and band adjustment makes for smoother ratio changes
you problem is that the engine light comes on and you are not getting the fault codes read to determine the problem in the transmission
have that done at an accredited transmission specialist shop first then when you have a proper diagnosis done , you can decide on what course of action to take
