I have an 86 chevy caprice i ran outta gas turned

How old is the battery? It can have the proper voltage but not enough amperage to spin the starter motor over. Turn off ALL of your accessories and try to jump start the car. Look for loose or corroded wiring. Tighten loose connections and make sure you have a good ground on the negative battery terminal (goes to the engine block). If you painted the engine or there is a leak that drips down to this connection, it can be enough to keep the current from making it to the starter. The starter is located on the passenger's side of the engine, towards the rear of the engine block just in front of the bell housing on the transmission. You will have to crawl under the car to see it. Might be loose wire on the starter too. If you have done ANY recent work, retrace your steps to confirm you did not forget to tighten up a bolt / nut.

My license plate lights are not working I put new bulbs in and its still not working what is my problem 1986 Chevrolet Caprice

common problem, usually something happens to the wires try to trace them down but also test and see if you getting any current they make a little kit that you can get or just run a new wire from the fuse panel (use a lower amp non important one like dome lights or park lights etc.) and simple ground on a piece of metal near it (find a bolt take it back a few turns wrap the wire around at least twice and tighten) I’m happy to help further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/jason_66344e9ad974c715

Wipers won't turn off on 1986 chevy caprice

Hello. Try removing the Wiper fuse from the fuse box and see if the wipers stop. (The fuse should have a "25" on it and will be the 2nd fuse from the left and in the 2nd row from the top.) If they do not, the wipers are getting power from another source other than the switch and this will need to be searched out. If they do turn off when the fuse is removed, replace the fuse and then look at the switch. Move the wiper switch back and forth thru all of the settings. If you do not see any change in the wiper speed, the switch has failed and is stuck in one position. replace the switch

Replaced sparkplug wires

Ever consider you put the wires on wrong? Before you do ignition wires ,you need manuals or a diagram of the firing order, cylinder position & such, eg: you have to be knowledgeable or you don't work on cars or anything else You make a diagram of where the wires are, before you remove them & write the cylinder numbers on with a ball point pen, as you install the new ones & check your work

Spark plug wires

I think I answered this. I believe the numbers are so that you have the correct length for each plug. There is no difference, except for the length. To isolate your problem pull one wire at a time and when the engine smoothness does not change, you've found the bad one. Check the plug. If it is okay, replace that wire with one of your old ones to see if that cures the problem. If that does not help, you might check the cap to see if there are any hairline cracks in it. I hope this is helpful.

Wont start

More than likely the timing chain is out of it. Check all the fuses. May be the module under your coilpack.

Plugged a phone charger in to the cig lighter and it blew my radio, horn, door locks and dome light. Will replacing the fuses work?

Yup, changing the fuses (or a fuse, for that matter) might work. That sounds like the effect a blown fuse would have. I'd also replace the phone charger, on general principle.

How to reset service engine soon light

If it has been on for a while than whatever problem it has is still happening. If it where a fluke the light would have shut itself off. If the problem is current and you reset the light the light will come right back on. Your best bet is to pull the codes. This ishoudl have an OBDI connector under the drivers side of the dash. Ground the a and b terminals and turn the key to the run position, do not start the car. Count the number of times the check engine light flashes. You can google search CAPRICE ALDL and see what the connector and pins look like. Post the codes here and I'll get you pointed in the right direction. To answer your question, disconnect the battery for five minutes. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com! I have an 86 caprice

This is simple ... you paid to have it done right ... you say you know the mechanic didn't check the specs ... take it back and make him fix it or get yor money back. Call the cops if necessary. This condition is very dangerous.

My air compressor is completely

Hello: The system is probably low on freon and if so there probably is a leak and the oil leaked out of the system. The compressor may have locked up due to lack of lubrication. For proper repair you will need to replace the compressor, orifice, accumulator and also determine and repair the leak.

I put the key in

Its the buzzer for the key switch so you don't forget to take the key out and its likely a minor problem with the key switch it self . The buzzer can be unpluged listen for the noise when looking under the dash board and unplug it . As long as your not haveing other issues with the key switch and the vehicle is running OK then you realy don't need the buzzer and it won't effect anything else on the vehicle just don't forget your keys good luck with it

How do i remove the

There will be 2 bolts (possibly anchored to the seat belts) on both outer sides ( they may be 18mm nuts or T-50 torx head bolts). Remove them and lift the rear seat straight up, as they lock into hooks in the rear partial shelf.
