89 Astro Van. It doesn't want to start. Acts
I have a 1986 Chevry Astro Van that I learned abot the hard way that was doing what yours is doing. In my case, after being ripped off by one fast buck mechanic after another, i learned it is the oil pump computer that probably needs to be replaced. If it does not read the right oil pressure, it won't start. But, what myinsance mechanic did was to run a wire from the ignition to the starter, etc. Cost was $11.--/ after he first pt in a starter, fuel pump, new main engine compter, etc, none of this helped it start. Then he did the hot wire thing, bypassing the oil pump computer. I undersatnd that compter is about $65.00. I got ripped off to the tune of 1,000.00 befoer thru trial and error the real cause was discovered.
Where is the fuel filter located on 1989 chevy
Fuel filter is inside of Frame rail under vehicle. You can slide underneath the van and look up at the floor where it meets the inside of the rails that run paralell to the sides. It is the shiniest thing up there. I can't recall if it under drivers seat or passengers seat. The filter unbolts from the frame by loosening a clamp. The filter is unhooked from the fuel lines by using two wrenches one to hold the nut at each filter end still and the other on the nut on the fuel lines to turn and unscrew the fitting. Make sure there are no open flames nearby or hot bulbs you can splash fuel on when you unhook the lines. You will spill some fuel. You can stick a sharpened pencil in the line from the tank when it is disconected to stop fuel from pouring out. Make sure to stay as far away as you can and wear something to protect your eyes from splashing fuel when the lines are unhooked.
