2004 Chevrolet Avalanche - Page 3 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
04 Avalanche 3rd battery in 6 to 8 months wont stay charged???
batteries will self discharge over a period of time especially in cold weather
however 3 batteries replaced in 6 months raises issues
first question is why would they not charge up on a charger or a run in the vehicle
second question is the battery of sufficient size to run the electronics
have you had the alternator bench tested to check for correct out put, regulator operation and rectifier problems
check drive belt condition and tension
the wire could be a ground wire but I would think that if it is significant then something would not be working correctly
Replace or remove cat.
Possible causes
- Intake air leaks
- Faulty front heated oxygen sensor
- Ignition misfiring
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
- Incorrect Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose connection
Help with this Tech notes
If the P0171 is combined with the P0174 code, it's very likely that the problem is caused by an intake leak. If there are no intake leaks, the next step is to replaced the air filter and clean the air flow meter. If the problem persist the front oxygen (O2) sensor may need to be replaced.
The P0171 code could also be caused may be caused by one or more of the following: debris on MAF sensor causing an incorrect reading, improper oil level, low or high fuel pressure or Engine Control Temperature (ECT) Sensor reading inaccurate.

Replace or remove the cat
So what is the question? It would appear that you have a catalytic converter issue going on. Replacement is the proper thing to do; removal is illegal in most jurisdictions. Besides, unless you want a constant Check Engine light lit, along with the possibility of very poor fuel economy, replacing the cat is the best option. Without it, the O2 sensors will not operate correctly and the PCM will default to a preset fuel usage that will decrease your fuel mileage by 20 to 35 percent.
How do i reset the abs and t/c system...?
the little magnet thing is what keeps the light off so you have to fix what is broken first
it is thee to tell the abs that the wheel is turning and if the system is not complete then it shows up as a fault and the light comes on
once you have had it fixed then use a scan tool to reset the system
Why are all gauges on dash not working.only fuel guage
Usually when these Gauges go out it is because of a faulty BCM( Body Control Module) The BCM controls all dash instruments . If it is the BCM you will have to get a dealership to flash the new one. Before doing that though check all fuses under hood and inside. It should say gauges or BCM
