Check oil light on 96 cavalier 2.2L

Check oil light is on all the time. fresh oil change and crankcase is full per spec. Dipstick reads fine. Could oil pump be bad?

2.2l cavalier engines have an oil level sensor on the front side of the pan just below the starter. make sure it plugged in before checking anything else. if you're going to change a sensor because of "low oil' light, that would be the one.

Fill the resovoir full of coolant then put the cap on. Start the car and let the tempture get about 160 -190 depending on your thermostat. Then proceed to turn the motor off. While the motor is off locate the bleeder valve that is loacted on a metal pipe that runs to the side of the head, Slowly turn the bleeder valve between 3/4 to a full rotation then begin to let the system bleed until there is a steady stream of coolant exiting the valve. Start the vehicle again and repeat till resovoir is full and there is absolutley no air in the system. Failure to do so will result in vapor lock and ultimatley coolant system failure

drove through a puddle, battery light came on, check guages came on and hard to steer

If the problem was just temporary then usually the problem is that the belt got wet and was slipping enough that it wasn't able to drive either the alternator or power steering pump. Once the belt dries off a bit the problem goes away. A belt that is worn or loose will be worse when wet and a good, new, tight belt won't be affected much at all. I'd start by inspecting the drive belt condition and the condition of the belt tensioner and pulleys.

For 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2L SFI OHV 4cyl the check the next Head Bolt Torque sequence...

------------ front | 8 4 1 5 9 | of | | engine | 7 3 2 6 10 | ------------

Step 1: torque long bolts 8,4,1,5, & 9 to 46 Ft/Lbs torque short bolts 7,3,2,6, & 10 to 43 Ft/Lbs
Step 2: torque all bolts an additional 90 degrees Recheck final torque in sequence

*** CAUTION *** engine uses Torque To Yield head bolts (TTY) that permanently stretch during the initial installation. New head bolts must be used when cylinder head is replaced or re-installed to obtain proper torque.
