most of the gm columns i've encountered from that era have a set of bolts that are only accessible after removing the steering wheel and the turn signal switch mechanism, this will require a set of specialized steering column tools, these are usually available for rent from most auto parts stores, the tools are important to prevent damage to the column parts and to prevent injury, there's a spring under pretty good pressure in there, consult a factory or haynes type service manual before taking any of this apart.
Take off water pump and replace on 89firebird 2.8 v6
As water pumps go, this is a relatively easy one to replace...It is located n the front of the motor...behind a pulley on the serpentine belt set-up...after releasing the belt tension, you can remove pulley, the water pump is behind this pulley, the 5 bolts that mount it are usually 8mm bolt heads...this water pump is usually about $35. and available at most parts stores...Imperative that you line up the gasket before applying any lubricants...be sure it is turned correctly so that ALL holes line up perfectly...some newer gaskets have added an UP arrow...Hope this helps...You may find a video on-line. (Change thermostat and flush system with this change)

If code 53 involves the PASS system for your car, the chip in the key has failed, or the sensor in the lock cylinder, or the control module. The anti-theft system disables the starter and the fuel injectors. You could bypass those circuits to get the car started.

have you check to make sure the cooling fan is working and not seized. this is a common problem with most cars. this is where I would start then go to the relay. the relay is usually mounted on the firewall under the hood and there is a plastic cover that covers a row of relays. don`t remember which one is for the cooling fan though, they may be marked on the underside of the cover.
Wiring diagram 1989
it may be a bad ignition switch=try this test! ( supplies about 50% of power. put key to position 2 the oil light, brake light, charge light and all other warning lights will not function.turn key to start position, as soon as it trys to start let go of key. allow to snap back to run position. and note warning lights, if warning lights go out when switch is snapped back! switch is faulty. in this case. there is no power past switch. check all of the main fuses first!! and wiring to rule them out.
