could be stopped up air filter, fuel filter, or weak fuel pump...try cycling the ignition on several (3 or 4) times and see if it starts any faster...sign of a weak fuel pump.
good trucks, but they've been known to give trouble.( injector pumps, fuel filter housings, etc.) the injector pump alone runs around $1500.00, without labor. fuel pump housing,$150.00,and so on. and pray the turbo doesn't go out! my sugestion? buy a gas rig with a 350 that has maintainence records and about 125.000 to 150.000 miles. it will last you a good long time.
Ouch. It sounds like truck was overloaded with too much weight by previous owner.
Time to go to scrap yard and pick up a used rear axle assembly. Take it apart and check it for cracks before you reinstall it.

if it's in the transmission other than ck'ing to see if you have proper level and quality fluid level in trans theres not much a homeowner can do your gonna need to find a good trans shop
1st try getting a fluid flush and fill this is a lower cost fix that sometimes works and you don't need to remove trans to do it
That clunking noise you get it whilst you are braking or just as you are coming. If it is whilst on breaking, check your rear brakes. if is whilst coming check for any suspension shocks, bushes.
THERE HAVE BEEN ALOT OF PLOBLEMS WITH THE SHIFTER HANDLE/SWITCH. THE BEST WAY TO VERIFY CONCERN IS USE A DIAG. SCANNER & VIEW TRANSMISSION DATA DISPLAY WHILE ENGINE RUNNING. THE SWITCH IN THE SHIFTER IS FAULTY. IF YOU SEE NO INPUT CHANGE WHILE DEPRESSING SWITCH THIS IS YOUR CONCERN.
sounds like starter motor/solenoid problem, try hitting the starter motor with a hammer , a couple of sharp hits may loosen off the bendix if this is the problem, if starts replace the starter motor
