I have recently bought a 2005 Ford Focus TDCi 1.8. In the first week it developed a fault with a loss of power and the 'Engine System Fault' warning light came on. The dealer fitted a new fuel filter but it lasted less than 24 hours before breaking down again with the same problem, except that this time the engine cut out completely and I couldn't restart it and had to be towed home. A local garage eventually managed to start the engine after priming it using a hand pump, there were no error codes retained when he ran diagnostics. The car then ran for six weeks, but I broke down again with the same fault. This time my recovery guy managed to start the car by turning it over and giving the throttle plenty! Again, no error codes. Any ideas anyone?
yes there is a know problem with the fuel system. fuel pump breaks down, empty your fuel filter into a bowl and check for metalic, if you have this in the filter your pump is F..... along with all the other common rail stuff. expensive job... error codes though, i find that hard to believe, fuel pressure faults will occur, i think you garage does not know what to do. or does not want to tell you the cost of the job and he will be in doubt himself of wether he is right..... was you engine coil light flashing at any point.!!!

Bought a Ford Focus but i don't know how to use cruise control. How do I engage it?
Hello,
First the vehicle has to be operating at least 35mph. There will be two sets of switches, one set is to the left and the other set is to the right of the horn on the steering wheel. The switches on the left will be labeled on/off, the ones on the right we be labeled Coast/Accel/Resume..
At a steady highway speed press the ON switch, (at the left hand side of the horn) This will activate and turn the speed control system ON...
Then you have to set and adjust your desired speed...
To SET YOUR DESIRED speed , press and hold the accel switch (Right side of Horn) until your desired speed has been reached and then release the switch.. Speed control will now be on, activated and set, you will be in cruise mode..
If you need to coast due to possible traffic, press and hold the coast switch as long as you need to.. This is like taking your foot off of the accelerator pedal.. When you let go of the coast switch you will return to you set cruising speed.
Stepping on the brake pedal at any time will deactivate the system.. If you step on the brake, and then want to return to your previous set cruising speed... All you have to do is press resume...
I hope this has helped you? You can find detailed speed control activation instructions in your 2005 Ford Focus Owners manual.. If you did not receive your owners manual when you bought the vehicle.. You can purchase one at your local Ford, Lincoln or Mercury dealership..

need to change the cigarette lighter fuse and can`t find the fuse box
The fuse panel is located below and to the left of the steering wheel by
the brake pedal. Remove the CD stowage box to access the fuses.
To remove a fuse, use the fuse puller tool provided on the power
distribution box cover located in the engine compartment.
Check fuse 47, it is a 20 Amp
Here is a link to your owners manual on PDF

Have some wiring issues, and do not have the owners manual, to know which fuse is which. Can somebody help me with a free wiring diagram, or a list of the fuse number that belongs to what?
Most library reference sections have repair manuals for most cars.

Got a problem with the headlights on my 2001 Ford Focus ZX5. About a month ago I'm driving to work with my brights on, there's an oncoming vehicle so I switch back to low beam and the headlights go off. The running lights are still working. I switched back to high beam and they came on. I turn back to low and they go off. I turned the knob for the lights off then back on, and the low beam came on again. This problem was consistent for about two weeks. As long as I didn't turn on the high beam, no problem.
Then I'm going to work and about a mile away my lights just shut off, they were on low. I turned off the knob and turned it back on and they still didn't work (this worked two weeks ago). Then I turned to high beams and they worked. I checked that afternoon when I left and it was still in the same condition; only the high beam worked.
Next morning, I get in the car figuring I'm going to have to drive all the way to work with my high beams the whole way and to my surprise, I turn on my head lights and they worked on low beam; didn't push my luck and try the high beam. Drove to work, and about a mile away the low beam goes out again. Turn knob off and on again, still only running lights, turn it to high beam and they work.
Same status that afternoon, only high beam.
I took it home, checked fuses, all OK.
Swapped the high beam/low beam relays, still operated the same, on high beam only.
I drove like a bat out of he** to work the next day and made it the whole way on low beams (about 20 minutes). Sat in the parking lot and turned on the high beam and it wouldn't cycle back to low beam every time I pulled the stick back. It got stuck a few times on high. That afternoon, only the high beams worked, no low.
I took it home and removed the high/low and turn signal assembly, went to the store, out of stock, ordered it on two day delivery and put the old assembly back in. Drove it the next morning and the low beams came on, highs would get stuck.
I was checking this stuff so often that I started to check it when the car wasn't running. When the keys weren't in it, low beams wouldn't work (running lights still on), and the high would. When I'd start the car, low beams would work. I replaced the high/low turn signal assembly when it came in, but it didn't fix the low beams completely.
I haven't driven it long enough to see if the lights shut off while driving, but this is where it stands. I turn the car on, the low beams work. I turn off the car, only the running lights remain on. High beams work with car running or not. I aso pulled both headlights to inspect the wires and nothing looked corroded or worn. I put some dielectric grease on the connections and put them back. Sorry this was so long-winded, but wanted to give a complete history. Any ideas?
just replace the dimmer switch under the column its wore out on the low beam side

reset Ford Focus Engine System Fault warning light
My 05 1.6 petrol Ghia is showing Engine System Fault. I parked it at home the other week and it wouldn't turn over. Have been out to check relays etc, changes coil pack, plugs and ht leads and now it doesn't do anything when trying to turn the engine over. Any advice would be helpful because I'm not mechanically/ electrically minded so haven't a clue. It had a new fuel pump fitted in April so I assume I can discount that?

Windows open by themselves when car is locked ! My Ford Focus car alarm has just started going off then when i went out to check all 4 windows were down yet i deffinatly had them closed 20minutes before When i got out the car!!
It sounds like the remote needs to be replaced. On a lot of the remotes when you hold in the unlock button for a few seconds the windows will go down. This can happen when you least expect it like when the remote is in your pocket.

recently the vent selector began to stick then the next day the vent would change from face to floor or to deforster
the mode selector is actuated by Bowden cables. When you turn the selector switch, the cable winds on a spool and that rotates the mode door. the cable may have come off either end. You need a U shaped set of radio puller tools that go in the 4 holes in the front of the radio. Then you slide the Us to the outside to compress the clips and allow to pull the radio out. Then there are 4 screws to remove to remove the finish bezel. Then 3 screws hold on the climate control head.
With the radio out, you can rotate the selector knob and see what it is doing. If you remove a cable, rotate it counterclockwise fully before disconnecting it.
You can buy a whole head for $10 used at car-part.com. look on page with * for lowest cost part. You can use 2000-07 contol head.
Please rate, thanks

Air distribution operating cables
The air distribution switch operates with two Bowden cables. The cables operate the air distribution valves in the heater housing.
To remove and install the cables, the rotary switch must be turned as far as it will go to the left. The air flap mechanism engages easily in this position, making the installation of the cables easier.
-------------------------------------------------
Installation
Remove the bezel with heater/air conditioning controls (continued).
NOTE: To install the Bowden cables, turn the rotary switches as far as they will go to the left. The mechanism engages easily in this position.
NOTE: The Bowden cables are identical for RHD and LHD vehicles, although they are fastened to the air flap operating mechanism with the reverse side of their connectors.
Install the components in reverse order.
