How do I check/add trans. fluid?
on these models, it is not necessary to check the fluid at regular intervals. (with no dip stick ). unless there is a leak or shifting problem. Here is how you would go to change the fluid! heres how to check it! Raise and support the car with jack stands, put drain pan in place under tranny, remove the front and side transaxle pan bolts. loosen the rear pan bolts one turn. carefully pry pan loose with a screwdriver, to drain the fluid. When drained, remove remaining bolts on pan. use a new gasket on pan if needed to put back on.(( FLUID LEVEL CHECK: vehicle has to be level! start vehicle let run for 3-5 minutes, shift through all the gears, locate fill plug on top of transaxle. it is on the drivers side ( look and you shall find it.) the check plug is located near the pan. adjacent to the drain plug. remove the plug, when fluid drips out of drain hole. fluid level is ok. the fluid level should be at the bottom of the drain plug. The reason I know, is because my 2000 Malibu was the same! When replacing the pan put in bolts . working around pan tighten each bolt a little at a time. until the final torque is reached. God -_Bless! if pan was removed.
Wont start
Have you checked for fault codes? Has the fuel pressure been checked? Does it start if you spray starting fluid into the air intake of the engine?
Fuel pump fuse location not relay fuse
You have three areas in that car where fuses are located. One is at the left side of the dash on the driver's side. Open your car door on the drivers side and you will see a triangle shaped cover on the left outside of the dash . Pull it off to see the fuses. Then you will also have another compartment on the passenger side of the car. Open the passenger door and look at the outside of the right side of the dash area and take off that cover to see some more fuses. Then you have the last fuse box which is located under the hood. Pop open your car hood and look to the left of where the air filter is located and up against the firewall you will see a little black box with a screw off button type of lid on it. Unscrew that knob and take it off completely and you will see the last of your fuses and relay switches. You need to find the original manual for your car if you have it and in the back of it, it will have a listing and a diagram of all the fuses in your car and where they are located. Also if you will look at the inside of the covers for the fuse compartments they should also have information on them for the fuses. I also noticed that on this website, if you will look at the left side, has a listing for manuals on it. Try clicking on that and see if they have a manual for your car or you can buy one at any auto parts store. It is called the Haynes Auto Repair Manual. Autozone sells it. Also if there are any colleges or trade schools in your area that have auto mechanics courses, most also repair cars. most usually do not charge for labor, only parts and a small shop fee. If this is the case call them asap. They can help you. Hope this helps. If you need anymore help let me know. I will try to help. I work on cars and currently have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am SE1.
Replacing water pump
I just recently did this on my wife's car. I youtube'd it and they gave me a bunch of crap about draining the radiator first, I could seem to find the plug they kept referring to so I just went ahead and straight took the water pump off. It made a mess but saved a lot of time, and I didn't mind the mess to begin with. If your engine is mounted the same you'll actually have to put a jack under the engine and lift up on it in order to get the serpentine belt on it. (If you have to replace the belt like we did, if not disregard this.)Replacing the water pump was pretty straight forward easy take off put on job with a mess of coolant.
How do you unlock the security system on a 2004 grand am?
Put the key ignition to the ON switch for 15 minutes, when the light start blinking (or a beep sound goes on), turn the key to OFF, remove the key (you have to remove it) then start the car again. If it doesn't work, do the whole process for 30 minutes wait instead of 15 minutes. Good luck, there are video also for bypassing the passlock security in youtube.
