Have you checked the fuel pump relay and the 15amp fuse that powers it ? The computer grounds the relay to turn it on.

Did you put thermostat in backwards or water pump is bad.

Sounds like the oil switch has failed here but iam a euroepon mechanic whos never seen this model vehicle ,renaults and fords are more my line and as i have no idea if this is a left or right hand drive vehicle then no idea so please ask a local mechanic to have a look for you but the norm is often the seal within the oil light switch fails and they leak its not uncommon

sounds like they disconnected something else on your vehicle. invest in alarm system..

Keep in mind the fuel strategy of the fuel injector is what the call PWM(pulse width modulated) so low fuel pressure can cause rich black smoke.coolant temperature sensor that is reading under temperature can cause black smoke and so can the MAF (mass air flow sensor) use carburator cleaner or brake cleaner and clean MAF outside of the vehicle and see if that helps

No, not from turning over but if their bad enough it may keep the car from starting. I noticed that the car is a 1996, what kind of maintenance has been done? Has it ever been tuned up?
