1997 Pontiac Bonneville - Page 6 Questions & Answers
97 bonneville quits after ten minutes
Hello
The
engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only
for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the
transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in
most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory
of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as
the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done
is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system
for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for
engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained
technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then
based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the
correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer
replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other
basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with
the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine.
The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear
engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related
problems.
Where is the fuel filter located on a 1995 pontiac bonneville
It should located on the passenger side, just a little ahead of the right rear tire, on the inside of the framerail. There is a small pocket between the frame and fuel tank. It will have either a black plastic or silver metal bracket holding it, and has a steel line running into it from the tank.
97 bonneville cylinder 6
I would say a zero chance of the fuel pump being the cause.Could be the spark plug, wire or coil - or a vac leak or the fuel injector.
My mass air flow sensor went out and had it replaced 3 wks ago. now it blew another one any ideas? 97 bonneville also
No the stalling is caused by something else like a dirty fuel filter of bad fuel pressure due to a worn fuel pump. With a bad O2 and MAF sensor the ECM will go a on open loop mose for those sensors causing bad performance and gasmileage. Replace the O2 sensor and try cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner and check the wire harness, look for any damages to the wires and replace if needed. As for the stalling, try replacing the fuel filter first and we can go from there. Keep me posted, be glad to help get your car running 100% and save you some money the same time.
DISABLE COILS
Remove the injector fusesCheck owners manual for fusesYou don't need to disable the fuel pump unless you want to, but you need to stop fuel from entering the cylindersYou don't need to disable the spark, as there won't be any fuel in therewhen your doing the test
Compression check
I would suggest a Cylinder Leak Down Test, will tell youmoreIt will tell you if you have leaking intake valve, exhaust valve, ring leaking,& maybe cylinder head sealingYou then can follow up with compression ,but whyOn either test your just comparing one cyl to the next, as muchas the actual values reached. There are several electronic test methods used also & requireless time & labor.
Replaced horn fuse and it blew again right away this is a pontiac transport 1997 help
The fuse blows to prevent wire melting and eventual fire! If it blows straight away then there will be a short circuit somewhere in the circuit, which means the electricity is going from the battery positive to the fuse then straight back to the battery negative without any resistance. You would have to follow the wiring and test components until the fuse no longer blows. :)
Dash vents are not opening on my 1997 Pontiac Bonneville?
Common problem here - - the air is directed by blend doors behind the dash - either by vac or electric motors. You could have a door sticking or the device that moves it may be faulty.Just about have to take the dash out to get to some of them. If you want to tackle it, I would recommend a shop manual first.Check your library.
