1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Questions & Answers
Outside door handle on 1997 olds cutlass will not
The only way to fix it is to pull off the inner door panel and have a look. If the handle is broken, you will see the two nuts holding the handle to the door. If the latch rod from the handle to the latch has come loose, reattach the rod into the hole on the handle and secure it with the plastic clip.
The door handles are a common problem on those models. Made with cheap parts, they break easily.
Were is the low side port for freon charge on 1997
it is behind the engine , at the right down on an ac line.it should have a plastic cap which unscrews, if it is missing there will be a fitting which will fit your ac fill hose. it is best to have a long hose with a shut off valve,as at this location, taking off the hose after filling,is tough as it gets hot back there and if you need to add more than 1 can, you will lose r34 as you try to change cans without unhooking at the port, which is now hot, and is hard to hook up.
1997 oldsmobile cutlass stuck in park until car warms up
There is a safety switch inside the gearshift assy. (below where you shift the gear handle) this safety switch locks the gearshifter in park until you press the brake pedal. pressing the brake pedal is supposed to release it. obviously it's not, so there's soda, coffee, or other substances making it sticky, or it could be just worn out. Take the cover plate off & look for this plastic piece attached to a cable(covered in black plastic) if it needs cleaning, use alot of warm water & a shop-vacuum. if cleaning doesn't help, then replace the cable (may be part of the shifter mechanism.)
Low coolant light
I have a 97 Cutlass. The low coolant light is on as well. After talking to some of my mechanic buddy's this is a know problem with this model of vehicle (Cutlass/Malibu). You can either replace the coolant reservoir with the sensor or just ignore the problem as even with replacing the parts it is likely to come back on.
Hope this helps
I CAN NOT FIND THE
General Motors has decided that it's important to drive their customers crazy.... To check the level on those you need to remove a small plug on the transmission generally on the transmission axle extension. Once the plug has been removed and the vehicle is on level flat ground, you fill through the red capped opening 'till it comes out of the open plug hole. (convenient, huh?). If you can't find the plug, most transmission shops can point it out to you.
Personally, I'd really love to hear the reasoning behind this silly way of doing this!!!!!
