How do you change the serpintine belts on 2002
Serpentine belt is an easy deal on these. Big thing, is before you do ANYTHING, make sure that you either have the sticker on the radiator support cover(open the hood, and go to the front of the truck, and lean in. You probably put your hand on it). If this diagram isn't there, you have to make sure you draw out the route that the belt takes. Next, you have a choice. You can either remove the upper fan shroud, or not. I usually don't, but some like the ease of getting the belts around the fan. Look at the belt. As you stand in front of your truck, you should see a plastic pulley(usually black) at the left top of the engine from your perspective. It will have a silver(or grime covered silver) bolt sticking out of it. Put a wrench on this, (it's also the only one you can put a wrench on) and turn it. If the whole arm moves, keep turning it, as this is the tensioner, until you can slip the bolt off something. The water pump is easiest, it's what the fan bolts to, and it's smooth. Once you get off of the water pump, ease the wrench off, and leave it in place while you take the belt off of everything else. Note: if you wish to change the AC belt, as it's separate, now is the time. Next, put your new belt in place, routing it as the original. You won't be able to put it all the way on until you wrench on the tensioner again. I usually save the water pump for last, same reason as for removing. Pull on that wrench a little, slip the belt on the tensioner, and you're done! Make sure that you got the belt on all the pulleys correctly(pay attention to the ribs, it'll eat the new belt if the belt isn't all the way on the ribbed pulleys. Start it up, make sure it is tracking and staying on, and the job is complete.
