my engine turns over but won't fire
I was driving the tahoe, shut it off , then it wouldn't restart. just turns over.
Is your security light flashing? If your Tahoe has the factory ant-theft system, if the security light is flashing while you are cranking your anti-theft system has been activated. It is common for the Tahoes to wear out the ignition lock assembly, lock cylinder and the ignition switch(electrical) which is attached to the lock assembly. I have replaced all three parts with great success and solved the no start problem on several GM trucks.
The most common problem with these vehicles is the fuel pump. The pump should run for a few seconds when you turn the key on before you crank the engine. If you don't hear the pump run, go to the fuse/relay box under the hood. Look at the diagram on the inside of the lid and locate the fuel pump fuse and relay. Check the fuse to see if it is blown put it back if OK or replace it. Unplug the fuel pump relay and use a paper clip to jumper across terminals #30 & #87 where the relay plugs in. If the fuel pump starts running, you should be able to hear it run at the back of the vehicle, where the tank is. If you don't hear the pump running, hit the center of the tank dead-center with a rubber or wooden mallet. If the pump still doesn't run, see if you can get to the wires going to the fuel pump and wiggle them. If you hear the pump run, try starting the engine. If it starts, replace the relay, if that was the problem or the fuel pump AND relay if the fuel pump was the problem. WARNING! WHEN YOU UNPLUG THE PAPER CLIP. IT MAY BE HOT!!!
The fuel pumps AND connector are big problems with GM trucks. If you replace the fuel pump(which is located in the fuel tank), use only the factory pump which you can buy at your GM dealer or an auto parts store that sells Delco parts. If the fuel pump used the small square four-pin electrical connector, replace it with the fuel pump. The latest GM/Delco fuel pumps will come with the new plug which you MUST change over as it is now a flat four-pin connector.
GOOD LUCK!

want to reset "service engine soon" light on 2001 Chevy Tahoe
It has to be done with a code reader,the codes have to be erased,but it will come back on if the problem is still there,auto zone can do this for you for free.

My Chevy Tahoe won't go into park at all it goes into all other gears but feels kinda loose and I have to put the emergency brake on and leave the gear shift in the up position but it stays in reverse on the indicator. What should I do?
there is adjustment down on the ******. I will send you a picture, what you will need to do it put on the e brake,and block the tires. on the drivers side of the ****** the shift cable is located, pop off the cable from the arm and pull the white clip, when push the arm foward that is park,and then easily pull the cable to the arm and put back the white clip

I think having both the P0404 and P0405 codes together would mean a definately bad EGR valve, but should I clear the codes and find out for sure, or just change the valve?
The P0430, I have no idea except it may have something to do with the catalyst system efficiency being bloew threshold. I friend said something about bank 2, but I have no clue what this is.
Oh yeah, and the mystery code P1404 came also, cannot find what this is at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Check for
vacuum leaks on intake manifold,
the air tube between the air filter.
intake manifold vacuum hose.
===
clean throttle plate with Berryman carburator cleaner
SEE sample picture HERE
===
Also remove carbon built up behind the EGR valve and the EGR passage tube.
===
Vacuum leak WILL offset the intended 14.7 to 1 air fuel ratio.
More un-metered air (leaks) will lean out the fuel mixture.
Use small amount of Berryman carb clearer at potential air leak area will help you identify trouble spot.
At idle,just spray and listen for the RPM surge.
The in-rush of carb clearer will increase the RPM on the motor.
Record the problem spot(s) and address it later.

EGR carbon built up require 2+ hours to clean from start to finish.
You will need a new EGR base gasket before your start.
Locate and remove the EGR valve after the vehicle is cool down.
Carefully record the connector and vacuum line (for older vehicle) location by drawing an easily to follow diagram.
Remove the EGR valve.
Inspect the location of the carbon built-up inside the valve and the EGR passage tube.
SOAK these areas with WD-40 spary.
You will need a small screwdriver,cloth hanger and lot of newspaper and time to get this cleaning done right.
RE-SOAK the carbon and let it sit for over-night will also help.
One the last round,pass a shop vacuum of the EGR valve and the passage pipe.
Install the new EGR gasket and connectors.
Allow the vehicle to warm up outdoor to burn up any remaining WD-40.
Take it for a test drive.
Please rate my answer if it's useful to you.
Cheers,

what do I need to fix on my 2000 chevy tahoe with diagnostic codes p0404, p0405
P0404 Exhaust Gas
Recirculation Control Circuit Range/Performance
P0405 Exhaust Gas
Recirculation Sensor “A” Circuit Low
It sounds like you have a failure of the EGR valve.

2000 Chevy 1500 battery light blinking, but system is charging fine? We thought maybe a bad diode so we swapped the alternator out with a used one. Light did the same, blinking battery icon on the dash. Replaced with a new alternator today. Still blinking the battery icon. Gauge on dash shows 13.8-14.2 volts and a external volt meter shows the same. What makes the battery light still blink? It appears to be charging fine.
batt mayb bad test for 12.6v -is it over 3yr old---must hold that charge ovanite--any points lower means its wearing--------if system chargn fine why did u swap altnator--------that lite cud mean a failn intrument cluster or computer prob---try unplugn computer cleaning thepins-then plug bac in once or mor

1997 CHEVY TAHOE. BRAKE LIGHTS WON'T WORK. CHANGED BRAKE LIGHT CENSOR, BULBS AND FUSES. WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE
the brake light switch. under dash behind brake peddle arm.

My left Tail light Isn't working
There is no fuse for left or right. If it's not working it's more than likely a blown bulb.
