1995 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Questions & Answers
My 1995 olds 88 royal stalls when driving?
vacuum leaks?. fuel vapor canistor uner the battery have a couple two inch hoses and rubber at the control valve , and a vacuum resivoir inside the passenger fender had bad tiny o-rings a little RTV on the stem to reseal, also the vacuum line running from engine along the firewall with, in fact, inside the wire bundle has plastic "y" with rubber hose connecting vinyl tubeing and "y"one goes to resivoir the other to the AC controls. All this on my '98 88, your '95 may vary slightly on the emissions controls and the under dash AC vacuum controlsdiffer substantually. Rubber hoses under the hoodcould be the culprit but MAP sensors, PCV or EGR system cloging, fuel pump or filter , even poor engine cooling. combined with some of the others can cause this.
My old ford ignition switch used to come apart inside the steering column and lights and all shut down, fun on the freeway. I'd punch the bottom off the steering column and she'd back-fire like a cannon and i'd be on my way. Hope you get under way
REMOVE TENSIONER ASSEMBLY
There is a special tool for that job. Some auto parts stores will loan or rent you one or you can purchase one. Once you have the tool in hand you place it on the tensioner and apply pressure to release the tension on the serpentine belt. Push the belt out of the way ( do not take it completely off). There is a bolt fastening the assembly onto the engine. Removing this bolt will allow the removal of the tensioner assembly. Reverse the procedure to install the new parts.
The trunk release buttons on my 1995 Olds 88 starts the car but does not open the trunk!
Seems to me the auto start and your factory key fob have the same freq. if it is a factory remote start there is something crossed somewhere. You should be able to find a disconnect switch for your remote start somewhere( in fuse box area or underneath the dash) once found follow the wire to the remote start receiver. Visually check wires and try and get a make and model number of the remote starter. Google the wiring diagram for that type of RS.
What would cause a fuel pump to overheat
On many vehicles with electronic fuel injection, the pump is located in the fueltank and the fuel actually cools it, chronic low fuel levels will cause issues here on an older pump BUT look elsewhere for thr PRIMARY cause... plugged fuel filters, bad pressure regulators and injectors. You havent mentione that it has affected engine performance so look to the fuelpath... filters and lines... suspect your source of fuel as the root cause for plugged lines and filters. You could also simply have a bad pump... it happens in any case the vehicle IS 9 years old and if the cause is found to be other than the pump itself, replace the pump. it is an electric motor driven high pressure pump. The Motor is what is overheating, and this causes the windings on electric motors to break down... which will result in premature failure. replace it while it is running and not when it dies with you in traffic or away from home and end up having to pay for a tow
