This sounds like the crank shaft sensor is bad. The sensor sends a signal to the computer about when to fire the coils for spark.

you can but as it is a safety requirement it would be very unwise to do so as it can start in any gear and that will cause serious injury and death if any one is in the vicinity when the car starts and moves off

Check for vacuum leaks, this is a common problem on the durango. Unmetered air enters the engine and creates a high idle condition.

If I were you I would just put the new filter on and the new pan gasket and take it to have a transmission fluid flush.That will force all the old fluid out and put all new fluid in and clean the transmission as well. Mopar ATF+3 7176 transmission fluid only. I would caution against opening that housing if you are unfamiliar with transmissions. I am not insulting you knowledge but just trying to help. A transmission flush will be much more effective anyway. Let me know if this helps.

You need to get a fault code reader on this. Could be one of several things.

The running out of gas and failing to start are unrelated issues. You need to replace the ignition switch... it is easy, just watch one of several youtube videos on it.

check the battery and then the fuse box.. if all that is okay, it's probably the ignition switch.

Torque converter solenoid... you need to get a fault code reader on that to verify.

It is usually not the cable that is the problem, but the cinch assembly. It is the same problematic assembly on many Chrysler vehicles including your. Go to a junkyard and get a replacement.... the whole shebang, pedal and all. Don't need the cable.

Turn signal relays, some cars have separate ones for right and left sides. Check function by using your warning flasher... it has it's own relay.

Remove the oil pan, you may have to pull the engine to get the pan off.

close all doors, windows and hood----lock with fob or key--wait 10 minutes--unlock with fob or key-- get in --put key in switch and start within 10 seconds.

you may have to goto the shop to have it bypassed/ removed if this is an aftermarket unit... they'll remove the brain and reconnect the open wires

yes it does, how ever if you are removing batter longer than 24 hrs you will need to plug a 9volt batter threw the cigarette lighter to prevent the comp. from totally deprograming it self. some times it will but in30 % of the time the computer will need flashed after reinstall batter for it to work again. if you don't keep 9volt constantly running to the computer.
