How to check transmission temp sender on 1992 w350 dodge

How to check the Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor. There is a reason for it. The sensor can skew ,a skewed sensor will mean either the computer thinks that the fluid is either too cold and thick for shifting or the computer will want to go into hot mode. Hot mode means no OD. Overdrive. Overdrive means no mechanical coupling. Use an infra temp gun. There are two windows to a typical gun. the top window is the laser. It gives you something to point with. The bottom larger window is the infra red. This is what actually takes the temperature. Temp guns are getting cheap. Place the gun on a hot transmission cooler line and compare the reading to the gauge.

92 Dodge Dakota V6 dies randomly. Why?

hope that it isn't the head gasket (white smoke from oil or water ending up in cylinders?)-check water for bubling, and oil spending perhaps, could maybe be faulty lambda probe(exhaust)/air mass probe(intake) or broken exhaust/intake gasket causing wrong mixture(more fuel) - the car can spend much more fuel as normal, can also be the spark timing too late maybe.high pitch mechanical clanking at higher rpm can be heard from the valves - perhaps timing belt?. if it is some kind of electrical fail you are lucky :)

On my 92 dodge dakota, can a bad cataletic converter cause it to not idle right when cold?

im am not sure that your vehicle has a diagnostic port so it can be scanned. you seem to have thrown a lot of money and parts at the basics which makes me wonder if the vehicle was previously well maintained? First you should check your exhaust gas readings using a local garage (they will have an analyser). If the readings are within spec and there is no apparent exhaust blow or misfire then i would need more info. Engines at idle are at their most stressed...everything has to accuract...no slight air leaks, valve timing exact etc. Have you cleaned out the throttle body? small airways can easily get clogged and give a poor idle. If you cat has failed..is it smelly? does it rattle when thumped? does the vehicle hold back when accelerating and struggle to get up to speed? try not to guess what parts to replace....thats an expensive option. Try to investigate and check first.....if possible. cheers Roger

Can a bad cat converter make engine not want to run right, wont take gas right

absolutely first thing to do is get some fuel addative that specifically clears the cat con as well as valves etc this is most times the only thing required and is inexpensive , have they OBD codes read if no better as could also be a sensor but the age of vehicle will mean the ecu was pretty basic so might not have much info retained .give the addative a go then take it from there follow the instructions on the product

Put everything on my 1992 Dakota, except computer on the fender. finally put this computer it plugs in on fender and fixed it. The first computer I put on was no good, bought from O'reillys for $200., but the second one fixed it. Easy to install, just unplug and plug in new one

Pickup surges acts like its out of gas, stalls when stopping and hesistates when accelerating

2 other common problems to check into is when engine acting up where is the oil gage at? If at low, either oil sensor is shot or the oil screen on your oil pump is clogged, which the latter happens a lot to dodge otherwise easy fix is your idle control motor, cheap as well . located right in back of your carb.
