2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo - Page 4 Questions & Answers
I have a 2005 3.8 monte carlo that just stopped
You need fuel, air, & spark for an engine to run. (Also compression, but that's getting more technical.) under the plastic cover on top of the engine is a black metal tube in the shape of a large "U". That's the fuel rail for the injectors. On it is a round object with a vacuum line to it. It is the pressure regulator. Pull the vacuum line off. There should be NO fuel in the line. If there is, the diaphragm in the regulator ruptured causing the engine to flood & die. Regulator is replaceable. If this happens, CHANGE YOUR OIL before starting engine after repair!
If that is not the problem, check for spark. Go buy a spark tester. Do not try to check spark by sticking a screwdriver in the end of a wire! If you do, and you have spark, the result will knock you on your a**. If no spark, cause is likely the crank sensor mounted behind the harmonic balancer. Have it replaced by someone who knows what they are doing.
Chances are good the problem is one of these two things. Other possibilities are fuel pump, fuel filter, ignition module.
Radio has no power fuse is good
now you have to unplug the plug into the back of the radio .use a 12 volt test light and see if you have power to plug .if you do the radio is probely burned out. get one at auto wrecker or a after market one. if no power to plug you need to follow it back to where you find power say the right side of fuse then go forward with that colored wire or run a new wire from that side of fuse box and crimp it onto the wire at the plug.cut it back a inch or two attach new wire.
