1999 BMW 323 Series Questions & Answers
As I was driving my 2000 bmw 323i, the battery
Sounds like a belt let go, but other items could come in to play here, such as. : Seized idler pulley, seized alternator, etc. Obviously you need to have it checked out. Did you notice if engine overheated, that would be the one that would worry me.
I have a 1999 323i
First things first.....You must have the air conditioning system hooked up to an a/c system machine and then checked for leaks and also read low and high side pressures. If there are leaks then low Freon (R134a) content and low refrigerant oil can cause the a/c system to not engage the a/c compressor which basically means you will not have proper defrost functionality nor regular air conditioning. Most shops, when working with your air conditioning, will install air conditioning dye to assist them in locating leaks and is the first step in diagnosing all a/c systems. Post the findings after thw
Car wont start
Had any check engine lights come on before you made any changes?
The ignition system uses an ignition coil, crankshaft and camshaft angle sensor along with the car's computer or PCM (power control module). This system can stop working due to a failed ignition module or crankshaft angle sensor.
Testing the ignition system is an easy job that takes about five minutes and can be done using a test light or an extra spark plug. Connect a test light to ground and with one of the spark plug wires or coils disconnected. Crank the engine over while holding the tip of the test light about 1/4 inch from the wire or coil terminal. Keep your hands clear of the test area to avoid accidental shock (non lethal). You can also insert a spark plug into the coil or wire and hold it against a metal ground. You should see a light blue spark in the gap .. which tells you the system is working. If no spark is present suspect that the crankshaft sensor needs replacing which is the most common problem.
But you could also check your relay/fuse box and see if any ignition related relays are bad. One way to check a bad relay is to find another one in the box that is exactly the same ans switch them ... and see what happens.

Good luck on your troubleshooting
My 1999 bmw 323i just stopped working. It ran
try this won't hurt and is simple Disconnect your battery....both the positive and negative cables. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes and then short the cables together with a piece of metal like a combination wrench, NOT the battery terminals, just the pos and neg cables. After you have shorted the cables you can reconnect the battery and the cluster may now come back to life and vehicle start. You are basically rebooting the car's computer doing this.
hope this helps.
1999 bmw 323i wouldn't jumpstart
No danger involved, just useless. If ONE vehicle won't jump it, there's something drastically wrong with the engine. A charging system will only charge a max of 14 volts when charging a low or dead battery. Over that will hurt something. If you have two vehicles connected to your low battery, there's still only 14 volts going out from them and into yours. There is no reason why one jump vehicle won't charge and start your vehicle. Unless of course the jumped battery is really bad or has a bad/dirty connection. So clean your terminals before a jump. You may not need a jump.
99 bmw 323i
Yes it does because the belt is what allows all the individual pullies to rotate so without a belt the Alternater doesn't spin so the battery doesn't charge and the power steering pump doesn't rotate as for the belt diagram it should have a sticker showing the diagram on the radiator support or on the underside of the hood
Airbag light keeps coming on
Hello, The airbag light comes on whenever there is any problem with the safety restraint systems.
This means that while the light is on the AirBag WILL NOT deploy. It could be several things....Electrical short in the Steering wheel (supplies power to Airbag), Seat belt locks (if the computer thinks the seatbelt is not in use it won't deploy the airbag), these are the most likely problems, But it could be bad or loose wiring under the dash (aftermarket Stereo?), or Impact sensors, or the Body control module. Any other lights? When does it come on / go off? Random or predictible pattern? Goods news is the car does not need an airbag to drive ... Good luck , hope that helped..
