Cruise control isn't working

just had the same problem... also noticed that my rear brake lights didn't work... sounds like two separate problems but as I did more research, found that both function off of a "brake light switch" that is located under the dash next to the brake pedal. Have someone look at your brake lights to verify that they are working... If not then most likely same problem I had....

In my case, the wear and tear on that switch caused a small plastic clip on the switch to break such that the brake lever never made contact to trigger the switch to turn on the brake lights and never allowed the cruise to engage.

Probably other potential causes but thought I would add since I experienced cruise control problem recently in my grand prix.

Replacement is very easy... and switch was only $12 at Advanced Auto Parts.

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. Will the parts of a 1996 Pontiac Grand AM fit on a 2000 Grand Prix? They look identical.

Question edited for clarity. Question moved from Home Heating and Cooling. . What is the difference between Pontiac Grand Am and Grand Prix? The main difference between the Grand Prix and Grand Am is that the Grand Prix has a plain body and automobile AC system. On the other hand, Gand am is a curved-bodied and manual AC featured vehicle. Both the automobiles have amazing features and are different from each other in several aspects. The parts you mentioned should be fine. https://www.google.com/search?q=2000+Pontiac+Grand+Prix+v+1996+Pontiac+Grand+AM ..

I was told that my air flow sensor needed to be

I assume that someone looked at the "Check Engine" codes and saw this sensor error. If that is true, you will find the sensor inside that air intake that connects the air filter housing to the engine throttle housing. If the code is not why you are replacing it, first be completely sure you don't have any vacuum leaks. The intake tube will be a large rubber tube that has maybe a couple electrical connections and maybe a smaller hose. At any rate there is at least one connection to the air flow sensor. Disconnect the electrical connections and take that hose loose from the air filter housing. Take the filter housing off. Then you should be able to take the air intake tube off the throttle housing. It will have a fairly normal hose clamp. When you put this back together, be sure all the connections are tight and that there is nothing that might be an air leak. A leak in the intake allows air into the engine that has not gone through the sensor causes some serious performance problem by the fuel/air mixture being too lean. Should you see a suspicious connection of a vacuum hose anywhere, fix that first. You don't say what the problem is but a vacuum leak could look like an air sensor problem, unless the engine code specifically points to the sensor. Now that you have the intake tube off the engine you can look in and see the sensor in the tube. It is usually mounted by some small screws to the intake tube. It should be easy for you to take out of the intake tube. While you have the intake tube off, it's a good idea to clean the throttle plate and throat. Buy some spray cleaner that says it if good for throttle and does not harm oxygen sensors. Follow the can directions. Clean the throttle plate, then open the throttle full and spray all the inside if the throat that you can see. Put it all back together. The engine my be a little hard to start because of the cleaner you sprayed into the throttle throat. If there was an engine code you need to clear that so the light goes out and the old code doesn't remain in the system. To clear the code, disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes. Good luck. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for using FixYa. Gaker

Can flat tires cause the engine light to be on in my 2000 Grand Prix

No, 2000 was before Tire Pressure Sensors came in and became a mainstream feature. They don't normally trigger the Engine Malfunction Light anyway. There is just a warning light in the dash display that shows 'TPS'. You need someone with a Code Reader. Garages will do it for free in the hope of getting the work. It only takes 2 minutes. Write down the code and come back to us.

2000 Grand Prix won't start

Sure sounds like a flat battery.Could also be loose or poor connection with the main battery cables.Try running a wire from the positive terminal of the battery directly to the starter solenoid,if you leave ignition on vehicle should start. If the battery has collapsed a cell jump starting does not always work. You must confirm by swapping the battery to eliminate it as the cause of your fault as any tests are useless unless you do so.let me know once youve confirmed battery is ok.

What is correct tire pressure on 2000 pontiac grand prix gt?

Look in one of the rear door jams of the car. There should be a plate that has tire pressure settings for different tire sizes. Verify this pressure against the tires rated max pressure, it is on the sidewall of the tire in very small print. If the recommended pressure does not exceed the max pressure, fill it to that pressure. If it exceeds the max pressure, only fill it to the max pressure. This should be checked and filled with the tires cold (ex. before driving any substantial distance)

My 1999 monte carlo z34

Your problem looks like there is no 4th gear One thing you could do is : 1. Drive your car at a steady speed and cruising while your right foot is on the gas pedal with your left foot just touch a little bit the brake pedal just to release the brake switch and look the RPM should drop of 300 to 500 rpm in 3th gear. If so, you have the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) applied next. 2. Retrieve the engine code with a scanner to see if there is any faulty transmission or engine code. 3. If you have code register than you have to solve the code first. 4. After the fix is done erase code so the PCM (Powertrain Control Module)will reset to normal. 5. Test drive to see if your problem is solved. P.S.: Transmission fluid is very important. Do a transmission flush if you doubt. Hope it helps.

I have a 2003 pontiac grand prix and the car alarm

Chances are it is an electric contact inside of one of the door latches not making good contact. The BCM is getting a signal that one of the doors is being opened and thinks the car is being stolen. Usually ends up being the drivers door as it is used more than the others.

Replacing stock delco radio with aftermarket deck. need info!!!

If the aftermarket deck has a amp wire you will have to wire it into the lead that controls the amp relay. You will have to get the schematic for your electrical system to locate the 12 volt trigger wire for the relay that turns on the delco/bose amp. that way everytime you turn on the deck the amp will also turn on.

Air from the a/c is coming from front mirror vents

The vacuum switch is right behind the mode control knob on the climate control panel, but make sure it is getting vacuum from the engine before replacing it. There is a vacuum line that goes from the engine intake manifold through the firewall to the control panel. This line may have come loose from the engine, which is the most likely cause of your problem.

If you remove the factory radio, wiil the car stop starting

The problem is most likely the ignition lock cylinder, there are two tiny wires coming out of the cylinder that break over time. You can replace the ignition lock cylinder or you can bypass the system. If you want to bypass the system, use an ohmmeter to find the resistance across the chip in the key. Then go to Radio Shack and purchase a resistor of the same resistance value. Wire this resistor across the two white wires coming out of the steering column under the dash. These white wires are encased in orange insulation where they come out of the column, then break out of the insulation near the connector.
