2002 bmw 540i check engine light
Buy an OBD 2 scanner, or a less expensive OBD 2 code reader (OBD means on board diagnostics, 2 means second generation-anything built after 1996, generally). Plug into your car's diagnostic port and read the codes. The trouble codes relay what the computer detected as a problem-points you to a course of action. Whether you fix it yourself or take to a shop with the codes for the repairs. Many national chains, such as Autozone, will do scans of the engine computer for free, hoping you will return there to buy parts. Be aware a trouble code does not relay a specific course of action-it only points you or a technician to what the computer saw as a problem, like a circuit failure in a sensor signal, it could be the sensor or the wiring associated with it. Common sense and a knowledge of how the many components and sensors work and interact will help one understand and find the problem. For example, a code of a bad oxygen sensor signal-reading too much oxygen in the exhaust-would not be a bad oxygen sensor, but one needs to check why the air-fuel mixture is wrong-too lean-is a vacuum line leaking, or is the fuel pressure too low-these are the types of questions that can arise from a trouble code.If you want to avoid mechanics entirely, better buy a repair manual and learn all you can about modern engine management electronics.
Engine block amber light
sounds like your check engine light is on. On 99ish 3 series the check engine light was an amber engine in the instrument cluster. I thought 5 series actually said service engine soon. If you cycle your key the bulb check should illuminate all lights. see if you have a light that says service engine soon, if not, the amber engine, is the check engine light.
The left hand passenger window is stuck all the way down and does not want to come back up again,is there any way to fix it ourselves?
I had this issue a couple years ago and it turned out there was an issue with the track which u need someone who knows what they are doing to take the panel off of your door and reset it. Unfortunatley I kept fooling with mine and got to work a few times so never had it looked at and stressed the glass to the point where it blew up all over me and my kids on the highway and cost me close to $300 to replace. Way cheaper to have it reset. However, each situation could be different and have its own possibilities; this is just one of the those. Cheers
2002 BMW 540I air/conditioner not blowing air at all.
It is the Final Stage Unit/Blower Motor Resistor - changed mine and the problem never came back. After two tows and drained batteries. Most mechanics don't seem to put this one togther - you have to demand it. Funny because it is a VERY COMMON problem in BMW.
Need to know what "trans failsafe mode" message
Trans failsafe is "Limp" mode, it means a sensor has triggered due to a fault in OBC. You need to bring it to BMW or a competent shop to have a fault scan done to identify the actual cause. Limp mode allows you to drive short distance (so you're not stranded roadside)
2002 bmw 530 I oil pump located
Your oil pump is located inside the oil pan but is part of the chain assembly. The first picture is with the oil pan removed and the engine upside down (the red arrow) the second is right side up red arrow pointing to the oil pump. That gear with the chain on it is left handed thread when removing and installing. Hope this helps....
E39 starting issues
HAVE YOU HAD THE BATTERY TESTED? ARE THE BATTERY TERMINALS/CABLES CLEAN AND FREE OF CORROSION? ARE THEY TIGHT?
Where is the oil drain plug on a 2002 BMW 325i
It is located on the oil pan, please be advised the oil pan is also the casting that houses the front differential, and the engine oil drain is the hex nut furthest to the rear of of the pan . You will need a 17mm wrench to remove the hex nut . After you drain the oil, DO NOT over tighten the plug . The proper torque is 25 newton/meters or about 20 foot/pounds
2002 BMW 540I ALARM GOES OFF ALL THE TIME BY ITSELF
Have the dealer keep the car and run a scan test on the security system while this alarm issue is occurring, then they can pinpoint the cause of the false activation of the system. That problem will likely be one of the door latch sensors is failing.
