2008 Dodge Caliber - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Hi I own a 2008 Dodge Caliber. It would not start . The lights were very strong and horn worked. The power locks would. My husband was told to take battery ground cable off and let it sit for 1 minute
That's baloney (?bologna?) with the negative cable re-setting.
First, let me ask by not start, do you mean it cranks and won't start, or it won't even crank the engine over?
If it cranks and won't start, suspect a gas or spark problem. Check the fuel pressure and the injector circuit for a fuel problem, then check the ignition circuit for a spark problem.
If it won't even crank the engine over, it could be a wiring problem going to the starter, or it could be a bad starter motor or starter solenoid (that is attached to the starter). After all, the starter that is in the car is now 9 years old (if never changed), and that could be the problem. Usually they give some hints when they begin to go bad, like slow acting, but not always.
I have clutch problem it's like a have no clutch
The clutch system is hyrdrolic all oil NO AIR.
Oil will not compress air dose so if you have air in the oil clutch system you have no clutch or height grab issues or gear engagement problems mostly rev, and 1st gear .
However it could also be a shattered clutch disk that you would have to remove transmission bell housing ect, to check.
I would start with the clutch lines and cylinders .Their is a master cylinder a slave cylinder and a reservoir .Check the RES. is it empty do you see fluid on the bottom line any oil wipe it off push the pedal check line again no fluid leak is good. Now look at the master cylinder it connects to the pedal on one side and comes through the fire under the vacuum booster control follow the line from the reservoir it connects to it .Look for fluid leaking down on the clutch pedal and ware to bushings this is the biggest ware part . If you see fluid its leaking and if fluid gets out air is getting in and over time will reach a point ware the air wins and can't put enough force on the fluid to disengage the springs on the pressure plate that want to put the force\of the engine on that plate and disk and flywheel. This what the slave cylinder dose.Think of it like a light switch its on or off pedal out on pedal in power off.
This requires a total rebuild of all clutch parts at least the slave cylinder and turning the flywheel so its a smooth surface if you skip the turning the clutch will fail in 20000 miles you might getaway with the master cylinder depending on the condition and the res as long as it dosn;t leak and is clean
Throttle control light is flashing wont idal right
Sounds like a bad throttle position sensor (TPS). Go to Auto Zone for a free scan & go from there. If that's the issue, It's a relatively simple DIY fix. Plenty of how to articles/videos online. Google is your friend.

Caliber will start for a second then die. when i try to start again it will not crank. i have all lights and power in the car seems normal. ill let the car sit for a few hours and it starts fine.
Well if the vehicle starts even for a few seconds .That means you are getting fuel and electrictal supply to give you a spark through the coils wires and disturbuter at least start up .
Then you say you let it sit a few hr's and it starts again
Why did you have to put a new battery in it If it starts fine .
You have a problem with your fuel system not delivering enough fuel .
You can pretty much rule out the electrical system the battery turns the starting motor .
The vehicle it 08 not really old enough for a fuel pump to go but fuel filters clog and that will damage the pump aswell and cause a condution similiar to what you have described and while your at it take out the air filter that will help to .
Give this a try follow the fuel lines from the pump to the engine you will see a fuel filter change it .The vehicle will likely run again
For 10 to 20 dollars out of pocket
