I see this procedure in a 2009 JK Sahara... tried taking the knob off. You need to remove bottom casing of knob,
pry off rubber protection, pop off the head with a screw driver.
Underneath the head is a metal casing which acts as a key.
That needs
to be popped off with a screwdriver as well. Once this is off, the rest
of the knob should slide right off. The shaft is thicker than older
models. I found that out the hard way and bought a knob that would fit
an older model. Now I have to make the hole on this knob bigger.
Also, I find this write-up...
1. On 4x4 vehicles grasp the transfer case shifter knob and pull straight up and remove the knob.
2. On manual transmission vehicles, using a trim stick C-4755 or
equivalent, separate the shifter boot (2) from the console bezel (1).
3. Remove the bolt (3) and remove the manual transmission shifter (2) from the shifter shaft (1).
Hope this helps.
