Changing the alternator in a Saturn Relay. How to get it wheel well off?

Hi First off need to know what year Relay and what size motor, A 4 cylinder the alt with come out through the top and a 6 cylinder through the bottom/pass side wheel well. If 6 cyl. take pass side tire off then the small plastic panel exsposing the motor then take belt off then first take off the Positive battery post then you can disconnect the wiring from the Alt. then the bolt holding it in. Now just maneuver the Alt out through the wheel well and now install new Alt back in in reverse order. Hope this helps Pat

On car relays the ones with 4 or 5 pins how do tell if they are normally closed or normally open.

there may be symbols on the relay that will indicate NO or NC. The only other way to tell is if you buy the electrical repair manual for your car. The information in the schematics will show NO or NC. Taking the relay and testing it will tell you what it's doing right then. Using a DVM and testing continuity, if it's unplugged and and testing across the legs it shows all zeros it means that the circuit is complete and there is no resistance from point A to point B, but once power is put to the relay, if the same legs now show resistance (Numbers jumping up and down or anything other than zero, then your circuit is open.

What could be the problem

On the Saturn SWs the rear wipers eventually quit working as the wiper motor axle/stem corroded over or the unit itself broke due to a cracked internal plastic gear from trying to run the wiper when the blade was frozen to the glass by ice or snow. Suppose the technology is the same. You buy a new unit and install it. Again on SWs the base of the wiper arm would corrode onto and become a part of the motor stem and is a ***ch to remove without breaking the rear glass. Drill a hole through the base of the wiper arm and use a gear puller to get it off instead of prying.

How do I replace an IMT valve?

Hi

SSV is the secondary shutter valve - different term for a similar issue.

IMT = Intake Manifold Tuning

P2070: Intake Manifold Tuning (IMT) Valve Stuck Open.An intake manifold tuning (IMT) valve is used to change the intake manifold plenum configuration. When the IMT valve is open, the intake manifold is configured to one large plenum. When the IMT valve is closed, the intake manifold is configured to 2 smaller plenums. The IMT valve improves engine performance at low and high engine speeds depending on the engine load.

The valve is situated on the inlet manifold on your engine.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate this answer. Many Thanks.

2003 Saturn Vue 2.2 liter. Why is it stalling and the codes are P0340 and P1599. The car doesn't have a camshaft position sensor?

Circuit Description This ignition system does not use a conventional camshaft position (CMP) sensor that detects valve train position. The ignition control module (ICM) detects when #1 or #3 cylinder has fired on its compression stroke using sensing circuitry integrated within each coil. The sensing circuit detects the polarity and the strength of the secondary voltage output, the higher output is always at the event cylinder. The ICM sends a CMP signal to the engine control module (ECM) based on the voltage difference between the event and waste cylinder firing energy. This system is called compression sense ignition. By monitoring the CMP and crankshaft position (CKP) signals, the ECM can accurately time the operation of the fuel injectors. If the ECM receives an intermittent CMP signal from the ICM, the CMP Resync Counter on the scan tool will increment. When the ECM cannot use the information from the CMP signal, DTC P0340 will set. Diagnostic Aids • The following conditions may cause this DTC to set: - Low resistance in both the #1 and #3 secondary ignition circuits - High resistance in both the #4 and #2 secondary ignition circuits - An intermittent crank signal • An Intermittent crank signal will result in an interrupted cam signal and may set this DTC. • To locate an intermittent problem, monitor the CMP Active Counter parameter while running the engine with a scan tool. The counter should continuously count up to 255, then reset to zero. The counter will stop counting if a fault occurs in the cam signal circuit. If this DTC is determined to be intermittent, refer to Intermittent Conditions .

I have a 2007 Saturn Ion 2.2 liter and my car turns on then dies immediately and blew my BCM electric fuse. Any idea why the fuse is blowing?

The person with 'no clue' you are questioning the answer from, is a full time vehicle electronics technician who does this 5 days a week and is our Fixya vehicle electronics Expert when he isn't. He has access to all the Saturn technical bulletins and schematics. This is not a fault you can fix yourself, you need an auto electrician with a professional grade scan tool, access to schematics and the ability to read them. Tracing shorts is not easy. https://www.google.com/search?q=mobile+auto+electrician+near+me ..
