You are using what I call the "let's try changing this" method of auto repair and as you have found out it is expensive and doesn't work. Your vehicle is run by sensors, modules, the BCM and ECM all connected and working on a computer network. The only way is to get the services of an auto electrician who will connect a $5,000 pro grade scan tool computer and diagnose every system and module in the vehicle. One benefit is that they can record everything that is happening, when all these odd things are happening in real time. Then they can even play back the details and work out what the issue is.

2008 F150 I turned it to 4 wheel hi and now the transmission is slipping sometimes, will not go into hi gear , speedo reads 5xs my actual speed ! Truck feels like it’s in and out of 4x4
This maybe your vehicle speed sensor on the transmission /your 4 wheel control unit/ or shorted switch / blown fuses / low fluid/check all electrical connections first and fuses and your fluid on level ground /next there should be codes set is your check engine abs or wrench sign illuminated if so have codes read at autozone or other parts store near you to find out when you check your fuses please check all battery cable connections from it to the power distribution box cable and make sure they are clean and shiny DO NOT DO IT UNTIL YOU HAVE READ THE CODES OTHERWISE YOU WILL CLEAR THE KEEP ALIVE MEMORY ///WHEN YOU DO IT JUST USE ALCOHOL AND A RAG ON THE TERMINALS AND CABLE LUGS TO CLEAN THEM WIRE BRUSHES WILL RIP APART THE BATTERY TERMINALS AND CAUSE LOOSE FITTING AND LOSS OF VOLTAGE WHICH IS WHAT I THINK THIS PROBLEM IS ANYWAY ONCE CODES ARE READ THEN DO THE CLEANING IF THE CODES COME BACK THEN THERE IS A DEFINITE PROBLEM WITH WHATEVER COMES UP ON A SECOND READ OF THE CODES
Ford 2008 F150-4.6 auto trans, column shift. Radio, mirrors, windows, gauges, dome lights quit. Headlights, tail & stop lights work. Battery 12.6 volts disconnected. 14.2 connected and running.
First Zach , you need to know how all this thing's work ! The gauges get info over serial data bus from SJB - smart junction box which gets the info from the PCM - engine computer . All this is designed to cut down on wiring , Coolant temp . fuel gauge sending unit , vehicle speed sensor , tach etc. are all inputs to the PCM .The PCM sends this info on the C.A.N. data bus where the instrument cluster microprocessor reads the data and moves the gauges ! The light's also are controlled by the SJB -body computer . The light's are PWM pulse width modulated -
How to Diagnose Controller Area Network CAN The first place is to start by hooking up a diagnostic scan tool an check for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes . The last Ford i had in my bay was a 2006 explorer . had this type problem , had U codes communication problems . Vehicle needed a new SJB $899 buck's an then it had to be programmed , another $300 .This is something you need to take to a qualified repair shop . Who know how it works and what to check and how to check it .
It could be as simple as a lose ground wire . But are you prepaired to take the instrument panel out to get to it .

More than likely the steering knuckle on the steering shaft is corroded. I had this happen to my 2004 F150 it wasn't driven for 3 months.
