I think that I answered this already it's your brake light switch on the brake pedal down by the steering column it has a plug with a hitch pin holding it on the bracket

Because its your brake pedal switch that has failed when it fails it makes the brake pedal switch keep the lights on to show you that it's broken replace the switch and it will stop make sure the switch and spacers go back in the way you took them out

It's new - why not just take to dealer

If your wires somehow got disconnected or burnt go to a junk yard and cut out the connector with as much wire as you can get then match them up color to color or buy the chiltons book but it might not have that so the junkyard is the best solution

If it is the factory system that needs to be reset, unfortunately you will need a Ford IDS, which most large shops have or your local Ford dealer. If it is the aftermarket alarm system that needs resetting, then you need and authorized dealer of that alarm system.

Teresa: Your not really shorting the start. Whomever is doing it is bypassing the starter Selinoid. The Selinoid is bad and it is part of the starter. Replace the starter and your problem should be fixed.
Hope this helps you.
