Chevrolet Cars & Trucks - Page 6 - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

I just got the perfect answer to this yesterday. It's a $5 fix! Check your brake lights. If any of them are out, it will make the cruise control not function. Turns out all 4 of the 3rd set of brake lights were out. We replaced the 4 of them and the cruise control immediately became functional again. I got this tip from a gentleman in the service department at a local Chevy dealer.

Not usually. It's usually an aftermarket part. Maybe in certain parts of the country they may pre install but not usually.

The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

Vacuum pump won't prevent it from starting but there are many many other issues that will cause this problem. You're probably going to need to take this to an expert in a shop that has a high quality bi-direction scan tool and the the diesel experience to get it to run again.

I would contact the rebuilder and ask him for guidance. You'll need to know what service codes it's setting as it tries to work. It's possible there is a problem in the transmission - rebuilt or not- or there may not have been a problem with the transmission at all and there is a controller or wiring issue.

If you are getting a message that says "Service 4 wheel drive" and the switch light blinks after attempting to make a shift then odds are about 60% that you have a faulty encoder sensor that's part of the shift motor on the transfer case or the push button switch on the dash is faulty. If you can get someone with a scan tool to read the service codes then the code will direct you to which one it is. You could also have some other problem but those two items are what I see fail most often.

All three of those codes are related to the throttle positioning sensor. Suggest you have a new one installed.

The code indicates an issue with the Throttle Actuator control. This is a little motor on the throttle body that opens the throttle plates at idle. That control motor may be bad and thus, causing a low idle.

I hope this helps.

Make sure it's all the way in "park", and try wiggling the steering wheel while you turn the key. Pretty new car to have problems like that.
