Did a lot of rambling around and cannot find anything on the 500. Found the 400. Since the smaller 400 is a wet clutch, I'm guessing the 500 is also, so your selection of oil needs to be one that supports a wet clutch. The 400 brochure tells you to be sure and not mix additives and odd oils into the system. Lucas makes motorcycle oil compatible with wet clutches (others too, but make sure you check) The 400 used 10 or 20w/40 depending on outside temperature.
I don't think you will be making a serious error following the 400 recommendations.
