HOW TO CHANGE REAR BRAKES ON A HONDA ATV. ... is this about the same for a 2004 yamaha big bear 400? Read more Show less.
Most newer engines use an electronic ignition system, if the spark is weak verified at night (in the dark) by removing the spark boot and watching the arc jump onto the engine block, then this could be your problem. Otherwise, you have a carburetor issue which is very common in ATVs. Rebuild it using a complete kit to include a float and throttle spring... replace dog eared screws, if there are any. Ensure you put the keeper clip on the correct groove on the needle valve and be careful when bending the float arm as they break off easily... making them useless.
turn engine slowly until intake or exhaust valve is completely closed. gauge the opening on the other at .004 thousands. then close other valve and repeat process.
