The battery went dead and now even with it charged it wont crank and er 1 appears on the screen

The battery might just be done or warn out, if you get lights when you turn the key on, and can honk the horn and everything, then it should click, if you are able to honk the horn and lights etc. and they aren't real weak, when you hit the starter it should tick, if your lights are bright and horn is loud and brake light responds quickly, then I'd ask a Harley dealer about it.

something is on ... somewhere.
That OR you arent charging.
Disconnect the battery put a amp meter between the + and the + wire. What is the reading? Anything above zero is a drain on your battery. Turn on the ignition ... what happened ... more drain?
Check your diodes in the rectifier to assure you arent loosing power to ground there because one is shorted.
Need more help, let me know ...
thanks

your battery may show 12volts on the multimeter at rest but may drain imediatly it is placed under load if you have access to a load tester this will enable you to determine the true condition of the battery but it certianly sounds like its time for a new battery

Hi,
To check if you got a charging fault, get a multimeter and switch to voltage put across the battery. You should be getting at least 13.4 volts.
Turn lights on and this should fluctuate upwards. If your getting anything lower then what I stated you have a charging problem. Rectifiers and regulators can only really be tested of the bike with a specific tester. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.
