Hi.
You just press RF before the item and this will make it negative.
So you would press RF, then type price, then press item button (department) then refund method - usually CASH.

If you still have trouble, just let me know.

Go directly to irs.gov and search on their site for "register a tax number." so that you don't get scammed by someone charging you money to do it for you. Either that or find a certified public accountant in your local area to help you with your specific needs. I hope this is helpful.

Turn key to program mode.
Turn power off.
Hold down JOURNAL FEED while you turn power on.
You should see 'LLLLLLLLLL' on the display
The machine is now ready for memory clear. Use the initialisation code from the programming manual which you obtain by using the table to work out the code for your country. Type the code at this point and press SUBTOTAL. The machine is now ready for your new menu etc.
If you need the programming manual, one of the users has it here:

I'm guessing you had flat batteries and the programming has become corrupted. If you couldn't clear the error 1 by pressing the clear button then that is usually the cause.
When replacing the batteries, always leave the power on or you will lose the programming also.
Make sure you have the paper inserted correctly as the machine is probably trying to initialize and print after the program reset.
If that doesn't help, you'll probably need to do a master reset and re-program the machine again.
