Kenmore and whirlpool use the same type adjitater. After many years the top part of the adjitater (the spindle)
Will go bad. When it does, it will make a clicking grinding noise. Sometimes over stuffing or large comforters will cause this to happen. To find out if it’s broken do this; place your hand on top of agitator. If u can turn it easily clockwise AND Counter clockwise. You have a broken adjitater. If u can turn it one way ONLY. Then it’s a different problem. Fixing this problem is vary cheep. 5 dollars for the parts.
4 in pack. They are called Dog Adjits.
They r installed deep inside the spindle. This can be broken for years
And go unoticed because the bottom half will still work. Try the test and see

Hi Geoff, your washer has a bad tub bearing. Depending on the age of the unit and how much you paid for it,you might want to go shopping for a new one. The bearing is pressed into the tub at the factory and is almost impossible to remove without damaging the outer tub. The outer tub can be replaced but is a time consuming job,so most companies charge a lot because you have to strip down the whole machine. Hope that helps.

Cycling occurs because a warm water wash has been selected.

The hammering is a plumbing problem - not the washing machine.

I DON'T KNOW. I RECENTLY FIXED A SIMILAR WASHER PROBLEM. THE SAFETY PLASTIC POINTER ON LID NO LONGER REACHED THE SAFETY CUT OFF SWITCH UNDER A HOLE IN THE WASHERS TOP.
I TOOK TOP OFF WASHER, TESTED SWITCH WITH METER. IT WAS OK. I RAISED THE SWITCH WITH A RIBBON OF COATED ALUMINUM METAL. WORKS LIKE NEW.

Your Kenmore could be simply worn out after 10+ years of service but the cycle timer could be at fault, especially since you have excluded pump failure as a cause.
