When my bike is in neutral it runs when i go to 1 gear it stalls how can i trace the line to the slave unit

You should be able to adjust the clutch cable from the top by the clutch lever on the handlebars. There should be a thumb screw at the end of the lever.

Have a look at the side-stand micro switch, mounted on the frame, flush it out with WD40 or something similar ............ Let us know how you get on.

SOURCE: The bike will not go into neutral gear when engine running

my husqvarna sm450r does exactly the same thing and my girlfriends yam virago is just as bad, i think some bikes are just too tight, rocking works or try finding neutral as you roll to a stop, on both our bikes it does the trick... nothing worse than trying to find neutral with your hand lol

SOURCE: 1996 evinrude outboard stalls when put in gear

Start by adjusting your idle mixture screw. Start at 1 1/2 turns out and with the engine in gear at an idle slowly turn the screw clockwise until the engine starts to die, then back off a half turn and that will be your proper setting. If you need to you can bump up your idle stop screw just a touch so it will hold also.

Hi, Yexer #2 or #5 and the usual suspects are:
1. Neutral light bulb burnt out.
2. Faulty neutral switch.
3. A loose bulb in the socket.
4. Faulty wiring from the neutral switch to the light.
5. If the neutral light stays on while the bike is in gear the wire from the light to the neutral switch is grounded.
The ignition circuit cut-off system comprising of the side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral switch has the following functions:
a. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is up, but the clutch lever is not pulled.
b. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the clutch lever is pulled, but the side stand is still down.
c. It cuts the running engine when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is moved down.
Periodically check the operation of the ignition circuit cut-off system according to the following tests.
With the engine turned off:
1. Move the side stand down.
2. Make sure that the engine stop switch is set to "RUN"
3. Turn the key to "ON".
4. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.

6. Move the side stand up.
7. Keep the clutch lever pulled.

2000 Kawasaki VN 1500 Vulcan Classic clutch will not engage


Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Clutch cable adjusted too tight.
2. Pressure plate center screw adjusted too tight
3. A broken clutch rod.
4. Slave cylinder piston stuck.
5. Clutch plate missing from the clutch pack.
6. Clutch plates have worn past minimum specifications.
7. Clutch plates crystallized due to incompatible oil.

Hi, Anonymous the ignition circuit cut-off system comprising of the side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral switch has the following functions:
a. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is up, but the clutch lever is not pulled.
b. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the clutch lever is pulled, but the side stand is still down.
c. It cuts the running engine when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is moved down.
Periodically check the operation of the ignition circuit cut-off system according to the following tests.
With the engine turned off:
1. Move the side stand down.
2. Make sure that the engine stop switch is set to "RUN"
3. Turn the key to "ON".
4. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.
5. Push the start switch if the engine does not start the neutral switch may be faulty.

1984yamaha virago 1000. with the bike running, when I try to shift from neutral to first gear the bike stalls. I think it has something to do with the electrical.. Help!


If you are at idle, in neutral, with the clutch lever pulled all the way in, and you shift into gear and the engine dies, it is likely the switch at the clutch lever. When they fail the bike does not get the signal that the clutch is disengaged and it is safe to shift into gear. Have that switch checked. Some bikes also have a side stand switch, make sure your side stand is always up before putting you bike into gear.

Bike will start in neutral but is not rolling something in the rear is locked


ok- you've got an old honda dual mode transmission. It will start in neutral and will run in gear but you can't transition from neutral to gear-clutch issue,I think its a hydraulic clutch may require slave cylinder or rebuild-first check for clutch plate movement b4 rebuilding-clymers/haynes manual great investment. Next the battery: either the battery is pooched- can't hold charge or the stator/regulator is malfunctioning or has failed and your battery is the only thing powering the bike thus it runs until the battery has been used up, good luck.

How to drive?


you can ride the cluthch on a bike un like a car you wont hurt it its oil lubricated constantly, sitting on the bike pull the clutch in with your left hand and click the left foot lever down in to 1st, then learn how to click it back up 1 half movement in to neutral. the neutral light will come on sfter the bike enters neutral. in first gear give the throttle on the right hand a squeeze and pull the clutch in with your left hand put foot gear selector down in to 1 st and begin to release clutch slowly. hold on as bike will engage may be jerky balance yourself! when you get moving stop! by pulling the clutch in and the hand brake as you close the throttle to stop! practice your take off many times some where safe! when you get your balance in 1st gear pick up speed and begin shifting the foot gear selector up in to 2nd gear and practice closing the throttle and breaking to a safe stop. gears are generslly 1st down 1 click 2345 and6th all up from there and neutral is 1 half a click up from 1st between 2nd gear. And dont put it in gear with the kick stand down t may stall on you
