It really depends on the rear axle you have in your truck because there are actually 3 different ones but all of them you remove the rear cover, then clean it and add a bead of silicone rubber to the cover and reinstall and refill. Here is where the difference comes in as to how fluid much to add. The fill plugs are in different places, one is at the front near where drive shaft hooks up, this one you fill to within 1/4 of the plug openning. The other one is in the rear cover and you fill it to bottom of the hole.

Not too much of a problem really.....you want to have a pretty empty tank. Your pump is in the gas tank. Best way to do it is have a digital camera in hand and take plenty of photos . Easy part is dropping the tank, unstrapping it, undo the wires and hose/tubing....remember to replace the gasket.
It's easy, take your time and you can do it. No special tools required.

It is the fuel heater, All you have to do is unplug it.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the diagnosis. It's disappointing that our local Ford service will not advise to help get it running, even to make it in for service."
1st of all when Ford started out with putting "EGR's" on those diesel engines, they rushed it and are nothing less than a pain in the ***! i recommend having an EGR cleaning service performed by your local Ford dealer, i know they charge up the wazoo, but they're the best people to perform the service period.this is a VERY common problem with those engines and that service is "supposed" to be performed every 30K I believe. i dont recommend attempting to remove and service it youself, this WILL only make it worse.
