Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I can drive for about 10 minutes at most before the temperature shoots up and the check gauges light comes on. It's alright until then, but my heat also isn't working. I've had the waterpump replaced & the radiator as well. I just bought the jeep used in November, it's now January. I've already put in over a grand worth of work. I'm really at my wits end w/ this jeep and I need help. Any ideas?

You may have a stuck closed thermostat or the impeller has failed on the water pump.
Replace them both. You never trust a stat that has gotten hot, and there is no sure fire way to test. You can take it out, put the car back together and see if the engine still gets hot to determine if it's the stat, or the water pump, but once you do all that, you might as well just replace them both.
You also need to make sure the radiator is not all slugged as well, and make sure the radiator cooling fans are both working.
There is a cooling fan relay that is prone to failure as well. Mine did in my '03 Jeep Cherokee. It's located behind the right headlight, and requires that you remove the headlight, drill a hole in the plastic shield, and replacing the relay. You can get a new one at the auto parts store. My jeep does similar thing when i am sitting in traffic. Found out that my electric cooling fan is not coming on when it is supposed too. It will kick-on when the engine is cold and when i turn on the ac. but when engine is warm, won't come on no matter what. I am looking into solving this now..

Use a test light, or a ohmmeter and check the wires at the wire plug under the dash that go to the multi-function switch thru the steering column cover, you should have continuity between #18 and #19 low beam terminals, if not the switch is bad and will need replaced. it shows how to check this in Haynes 1993 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee repair manual #50025 page 12-6. To replace the switch in the column cover, remove the negative battery cable, wait 2 minutes to disarm the air bag system, leave cable disconnected, before removing the column cover.
